I'm sure "everyone's answer will be different".

Just curious about how people view mundane chores like this within the context of their relationships.

I do not see household chores as a man/woman thing or a d/s thing.  I see them as adult things.  Certain things just NEED to be done.  As Butterhead gets older she will be expected to help out.  There is no reason that a young adult should leave home without knowing things like cooking, cleaning, and laundry.

My teenager loads them into the dishwasher and it washes them. My sub does not live with us but if he did the chores would be divided up between us all. I do not believe that anyone who lives in the house should have NO household chores.

~Lashra

I can't tell you how strongly I believe this as well. Whether dishes, cooking, preserving food, laundry, dusting, ironing... so many things to be done... and it is my strong belief that everyone in a household should contribute -something-. When I came to HB, there were servants in the scullery, and both above and below stairs. But that didn't mean that the free of the household did nothing -- there were still books to be kept, gardens to be tended, preserving to be done, and, of course, earning the funds that kept the Household running. Everyone contributes, and everyone benefits, and yet, if even one person does not pull hir weight, the entire household can come crashing down around one's ears.

It is indeed, but guess who gets to pick? (So far, you're not doing well) [:D]

TreasureKY -> RE: Who does the dishes? (7/4/2009 12:22:59 PM)

Hmmm... I do the shopping, the cooking, the dishes, the laundry, and house cleaning.  I make all the appointments, run all the errands, and manage all household issues for Firm, myself and our two teens.  I handle all the bank accounts, pay all the bills, and plan all the travel and leisure activities.  I take care of the business accounting, marketing, billing, programming, and daily customer interactions... as well as perform enough work to bring in a modest income.  Occasionally I find time to make sure I don't end up looking like a haggard old woman and keep Firm happy.

Firm provides the capital in bulk to ensure I never have to worry.  He keeps our sizable computer network running smoothly and the harddrives full... and he makes sure the couch does not fly away.  [;)]

It's a very fair trade.  [:D]

I do the dishes, my laundry and dust and vacuum the living room. Tis the least I can do in my mom's house.

lol...  I think it is.  We have five desks and eight computers in this house.  When the office is finished, there will be three more.  Firm still prefers the couch as his base of operations and it's where he does his work.  I suppose I can't blame him... aside from being comfy, it does gives him the best view of his domain.  [:D]

My sub hubbie does the all the housework including Dishes and Laundry(although it took a while to get him to do the laundry right).  he also does all the cooking and the shopping.

GYPZYQUEEN -> RE: Who does the dishes? (7/5/2009 6:49:46 AM)

IN our POLY home of 20 years( myself and 2 "husbands") we all took turns at different chores..
Sometimes  a chore/task chart was posted by me with assignments and other times with no assigned duty and we could choose and check off on the list.
Usually 2 could be found doing the dishes...which ever 2 did NOT make dinner.

In my house there is my husband/Daddy, me, and my Sir.  Sir does the dishes most of the time.  He feels that if he takes on some of the housekeeping, then it gives me a chance to take a break and then I won't be worn out by the time my 3yr old goes to bed and it's time to service Sir's "grown up" needs.
