1) WHY the hell do people feel the need to start setting off fireworks a week before the fourth ( or sooner???)
2) I have furbabies. they do not want!!  it's rough trying to console and comfort them
3) hey, not ALL of us have 9-5, vacay jobs....
4) HELLO?? Drought conditions??  Lets set  the state on fire with your (illegal) fireworks....
5) If someone has been drinking, chances are so have the people with them.  NOBODY who has access to alcohol should be allowed near explosives...

This is the 2nd week of fire works.  It should all be over around the end of August.  Only to pick up again New Years Eve, and on nights the neighbors favorite football/basketball teams win.  Ugh!

good thing you are moving fluffy.
yeah the 4th has turned from a celebration of independence to a celebration of pyromania. Today though, in my small town, I watched the parade and while the veterans of many wars rode by, the entire audience clapped.  It was quiet, respectful, wonderful.  As a veteran of a very unpopular time, it brought tears to my eyes.

intenze, I envy you that.

As I sit here, I am listening to fireworks being set off.. it will continue into the dawn hours, if the past few yrs are any indication.  it has NOTHING to do with independence, as far as I can tell.  It is all about blowing shit up and drinking way too much.

Yes, the place i'm moving to doesn't have balconies or patios.

i believe that i will make an office call on Monday.  It doesn't do any good to call the police or fire marshal to complain - it's happening all over town.  (Fire Code says no fireworks in city limits.)

LOL Greedy we were hoping it would be pouring down rain when it got dark...didnt happen.
Personally while I like the fireworks the noise of them make me want to crawl out of my skin...its the sound trigger thing I have.

Having grown up with a father that was a captian of a volunteer fire dept we only got sparklers, worms and smoke bombs.  Texas it alot like here as far as dry tinder this time of year and his being home after dark was few and far between since so many calls came in due to fireworks.

New years is more troublesome to me since there is this nasty habit of taking the gun out and shooting it up in the air at midnight....Im mean hell....do they think that bullet is going to keep going into infinity...no good ol gravity does its job and it heads back down.

I personally dont think fireworks should be made available to people, its better left to professionals who know what they are doing.

Fluffy...what you could have done is make sure you have a super duper water soaker and point it down and spray away and if they bitch just tell them your watering down your balcony to prevent a fire.

Every moron with a thumb, a lighter, and spare cash is lighting the streets up.

I don't mind them so much, it's just that one asshole who aims the thing the wrong way I hate. That and the garbage in the streets and yard.

Sage, that sounds like a good idea (and fun, too).
But since i live alone, i am afraid to make the neighbors angry at me.

Why should they be happy when it makes you nervous, why should their being irresponsible give you a night of stress, its not your fault they come from the village of idiots.

Plus if fireworks are illegal where you are its within your right to protect your property.
Just tell em your are just being neighborly and cooling them off on a hot summer night LOL

Get a couple of water pistol and offer a couple to them, that way they can wet you back.

Thread hijack:
One of the things that stuck me while I was watching was the age of the WWII vets.  In a few years there will be very few of them left.  They have seen much. I am glad the tide has turned for veterans and they can again be proud.  I was shocked at my own tears, but I felt, in that moment, deeply proud and grateful all at once.

For me, the only difference between the 4th of July and new year's eve (a good excuse to get drunk) is that I think of our war dead on this day.

Otherwise, as in Xmas, way over-commercialized. I just came across the Muppets...that's right...the Muppets on the Mall. Oh ok, they've added some hot blond showing requisite cleavage.

Fast Reply -

My old neighborhood had lots of people firing off guns for both NYE and the 4th of July. Both evenings were terrifying for the pets and I had to get doggy tranquilizers for several years.

Ditto on what Greedy said.

Hello... it's not even dark yet and they're setting them off... I guess you don't need dark to set off those annoying loud mutha's.
My poor sassy kitty is not diggin this at all! I keep telling her it's ok, she looks at me like yea right lady, they're bombing the house bitch!

Be careful saying stuff like that....they'll take that comment the wrong way over here.

Greedy:

Same here for Canada day but not the fireworks ..it is the drunk driving and yelling..
"Happy Canada Day"
as they veer down the street celebrating a nation by swerving and getting pissed up.
These same folks are drunk at funerals..weddings..and in between..
one long party ..... except it isn't a party..its a shit way of life..
They bother our fur kids..reg. UMS and the whole neighbourhood

There is a song by 3 Dead Trolls in a Baggie
called I Am An Asshole..
most apt..
