Wow. Serious, major historical figure.

Much of the documentary "Fog of War" (of which Mr. McNamara is a significant part) is on YouTube, & it is fascinating. Here's the first segment:

GEEZUS....ya think there might be other people dying? This death/dying thing could start a trend.

DemonKia -> RE: Robert McNamara dead (7/6/2009 9:13:01 AM)

I admired that he was able to admit that he got it wrong about Vietnam. That's something courageous & unusual . . . . . . Especially from members of the power elite.

pahunkboy -> RE: Robert McNamara dead (7/6/2009 11:13:04 AM)

I never heard of the guy.

I have heard of Vietnam tho, and how it will never happen again.

sophia37 -> RE: Robert McNamara dead (7/6/2009 11:27:37 AM)

We have to add him to that list that someone started the other day about everyone who has died recently. Its a trend I tell'y. Not a fad.

windchymes -> RE: Robert McNamara dead (7/6/2009 3:13:42 PM)

I'm getting really creeped out by all these octogenerians who are dying.....[8|]

DemonKia -> RE: Robert McNamara dead (7/6/2009 3:44:30 PM)

A very tongue-in-cheek reply to windchymes: technically McNamara was a nonagenarian . . . . . . [;)]

Well, he made it past the octo part, he was 93.......what is that? Septagenarian?
No.....it would be the latin for nine........nevertheless.
Only the good die young..............

windchymes -> RE: Robert McNamara dead (7/6/2009 5:29:02 PM)

You're right, I saw he was born in 1916 and my brain came up with 80-some years, lol.  But, in my defense, I was also including several deaths we've had lately of the older bunch....Ed McMahon, Gale Storm...etc.   If you average them out, it's 80-something, right??? [&:]

Septuagenarian is the 70-year-old bunch. 90 is.......just fuckin' old. [:D]

mnottertail -> RE: Robert McNamara dead (7/6/2009 5:51:06 PM)

OK, so old folks squick you.........tell you what I'm gonna do.......your last blowjob for me will be my 89th birthday............that's your limit, I have heard you and will respect that.

Dorian Gray

thornhappy -> RE: Robert McNamara dead (7/6/2009 6:11:40 PM)

It be nonagenarian...and we'll be sure to arrange the blow job for ya!

mnottertail -> RE: Robert McNamara dead (7/6/2009 6:25:55 PM)

I shall carry my birth certificate upon my person, all the days of my life.

Here, hold my dentures now, will ya, sonny?  [:D]

servantforuse -> RE: Robert McNamara dead (7/6/2009 7:51:53 PM)

We probably would have won the war in VietNam if that idiot wasn't secretary of defense. Instead everyone knows what happened .

LOL.

Prithee, what Secretary of Defense could have been installed that could have won that war?

you kill me.

servantforuse -> RE: Robert McNamara dead (7/6/2009 8:04:00 PM)

A secretary that was pro military, and not a pollitsion. Kennedy started it. Johnson and Mcnamara screwed it up and Nixon ended it..

Yup, the PTB learned from their mistake. If you want to sustain a war without your natives growing too restless and withdrawing their support, you must first create a bigger, better, more believable boogy-man.

mnottertail -> RE: Robert McNamara dead (7/6/2009 8:12:53 PM)

Well..........that's just not so.

Eisenhower 'started' it, Kennedy continued it, Johnson escalated it, Nixon escalated it, and then ended it.

It would be a marvel that the world has never seen were we to entitle a Secretary of Defense that was not political.  (BTW, McNamara was CEO of Ford and not a politician before his appointment)

So, how about someone like Paris Hilton for Secretary of Defense?  She appears rather apolitical.

War is an extension of politics, by other means.
