Well in 'many' places, they can't do that anyway. Not with cops' blessings anyway.

You get married to someone and they are entitled to your car, and your debt, and your house payment and medical bills and so on, just like you're entitled to those things as well...that's what a marriage contract is about. That's the legally binding part of a marriage contract. None of that love crap matters in the eyes of the law in regards to the contract signed. The car note, the house note, the house, the car all that's what counted.

So if you get that far, and that happens to you....call the cops, you're not likely to get a response.

Actually that isn't totally accurate. Maritail property is just that property obtained by either person DURING the legal marriage.

See that's what I thought. It's obvious that property acquired during a marriage belongs to both. But I'll have my car LONG before I ever consider getting married (since I won't be). So my car is and will be MY car. I have second thoughts about letting the maintenance guy drive it from the lot to the stall in the garage bay to work on it. I damned sure won't be letting some chick behind the wheel of all that muscle.

The sticks, maybe. In civilized cities, wives can start shit all they like and its the husbands who go to jail for it. In all the time I've watched COPS, I've only seen the woman go to jail twice. And in both times it was evident the guy was bleeding down his face. Aside from that, even if the guy called, he goes to jail.

I dont live in the sticks and the couple in the apt. above me are domestically challenged and the sheriffs dept. is there on a normal basis. I have seen both of them go to jail, I have seen him go to jail, I have seen her go to jail, I have also seen them give him the option of leaving for the night to defuse the situation, I have also seen them shake heir heads and walk away doing nothing at all.

Oh I know it. It's yet another reason why I shant be getting married. I don't want a significant other in my life that knows that all she has to do during a fight is slap herself and call the cops. It does happen and has quite a bit from what I've heard. All those instances do is minimize the plight of REAL domestic violence victims everywhere.

PS I would swear off all mean for being cheaters b/c the men I have meet have been but that would be punishing the whole gender for what several men have done. Kind of unfair dontcha think?

I don't know. I'd say it's fair for you. Just like it's fair for me to assume that any girl who expresses interest in me is only after the cash she can squeeze me for. Sure, if a girl expressed genuine interest in me, that assumption may not be fair to her. However I quote the play Hamlet when I say "To thine OWN SELF be true." I don't give a rat's ass if it's fair for her. As long as it doesn't cause me to lose a shitload of cash based on a lie, it's plenty fair for *me.*

Arent those simply reported instances? I personally think far more men don't report domestic abuse than the number of women that don't b/c of the social stigma or social expectations of men. (if that makes sense) so I am not sure those numbers are always accurate.

Edited to add: Erm, having scrolled down and read the rest of the replies, I shouldn't have posted again. Never mind, my bad.


However, I read a stat somewhere (and far be it from me to recall it now) that said that while your stat is accurate, that females are victims more so than males, it also said that when females were the perpetrators of the violence, it ended in the man's death more so than when the woman is the victim.

When a man commits domestic violence, he beats on his wife, feels bad over it, promises he won't it again (until he gets drunk and pissed off again of course). When a woman commits domestic violence, it's with a moving car, or a shotgun while he's sleeping, or a knife to his best friend since 6th grade.

I saw that same stat as well. Far too often when a man 'does' report such attacks, he's laughed at by everyone from the cops, to the court people to even his friends. "Awww.....what's wrong. A big ol' man can't stand up to a lil woman?"

Well, I can tell you one thing. I've been hit by a girlfriend before. Backhanded right in the mouth. It's the first, LAST and ONLY time that ever occurs in my life without swift and appropriate reaction. For if it ever occurs again, the offender will get a reaction based purely in reflex and self-preservation and I will not be held responsible.
