http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kitten Here's some info about kittens & how they behave at different ages. I can't remember the age when their eyes start to change to the adult color. The darker kitteh looks like it might end up long-haired. If you can catch them & hold them upside down, the way to sex them is to remember that a period is a boy & an exclamation point is a girl. They may not have too much hair growth yet to make it hard to tell. You make me want to get a kitten again, you evil woman!!!

soul - they are soooo cute! If I lived near you I would take one in a heart beat! My kids are convinced our cat is lonely since her brother died.

Speaking of Angelina, she is sleeping in my office winder tonight.

ShaharThorne -> RE: What is your cat doing? (9/25/2011 8:19:13 PM)

My brother got a kitten for the kids and he is a little devil.  He scratches Baby M's legs, trys to gnaw on my hand and arms and is trying to get out of the house (there is a female in heat somewhere around there).  I told my brother to go ahead and snip the cat before he starts spraying the entire house.

Actually, I am able to tell what sex they are, I'm pretty sure I have 3 little boys.  I wish everyone who wanted to give a home to them lived closer too, because they are just the sweetest things!  I went down earlier, and all three of them had moved up to the porch because it had really rained earlier, and it kept them dry.  They were all rambunctious....especially the little gray guy.....he was just everywhere!  Hopping around like a little frog....stalking his brothers, and pouncing when they weren't looking.  The runt is still a little shy, he's one of the black striped ones, but he doesn't run away as much from me as he did.  And we're all done with the hissing and spitting.  Mama was just sitting on the sidewalk, watching over them, not having fits because I was holding her beebees.  I don't want to traumatize her by removing the kittens too early, so I'm really just watching her at this point.  She leaves them alone more during the day when they sleep, but she's always someplace close just in case.

I did see the gray one going potty, so they understand the concept of dirt, so the litter box should be no problem.  I think they are still too young to start them on dry food, but as soon as all 3 start eating the wet stuff, I'll know it's time.  They are just too cyooooooot!!!!

Not sure what kind of coats they'll have. Dad is short haired, and Mama has a bit longer but thinner coat.  Time will tell.  My neighbor wants to take at least one, but she's out of work, and doesn't know if she can afford two...or even one.  I told her I'd help out with the cat food, and we both have used the pet food bank here.  Either way, I'd end up feeding them, house cat or feral.  If I can place them someplace in a family, that'd be great.  I know Sugar would love a buddy or two!

Linnea, it sounds like my guys might be around the 5 or 6 week mark.  They are definitely doing the exploring thing, and the stalk and pounce thing.

Intersting read tho......

LinnaeaBorealis -> RE: What is your cat doing? (9/26/2011 1:37:40 AM)

From your description of the mama & how calm she is around you, I think what you have is a lost kitty, not a feral. Most ferals would never let you get that close or be so calm when you are picking up her babies. So she's been socialized to humans at some point. It would be wonderful if she could find an inside home too.

I used to volunteer for this organization that took food & water to the feral cats in Golden Gate Park. We'd trap the babies & take them to be fixed, then release them back into the park. They were great for keeping the rodent population down. I loved going down into their little camps & playing with the babies. They never got very near me, not even the little ones, because the mamas had told them that people weren't to be trusted. It sounds like you are going to have 3 sweet little domesticated kitties at least, & maybe mama also.

Check with a local vet or the Humane Society about getting her fixed. In San Francisco, if you brought a feral in for neutering, they would give you $5. And they would loan you the cage to trap the cat even. Of course nearly everyone donated the $5 back to them.

the best way to introduce the dry food is add it little by little to the wet stuff and increase the portion of dry to wet over time so at first the wet stuff softens the dry stuff. ive done that before and it tends tor work the best.

yourdarkdesire -> RE: What is your cat doing? (9/26/2011 9:07:06 PM)

Angelina is pacing in the front hall. Inside the closet is a container of crickets. Beside the crickets is an empty aquarium that is the temporary home for a little dark grey mouse. The crickets and the mouse are tomorrows lunch for the salamander and ball python my hubby has at school. Poor mousie [:(]

soul2share -> RE: What is your cat doing? (9/26/2011 10:34:13 PM)

Well, my little guys scarfed down the wet food tonight, so they will be coming in soon...as soon as I have a few minutes to clean out the back bedroom...there is too much in there they can get in trouble with!

Linnea, I don't know what mama's story is, she was here when I moved in.  Same with Toby and Sissy.  She is feral tho....I don't think I'd ever be able to get her to be an indoor cat.  But as long as I'm here, she'll always have food and water.  I tried to bring Toby in one night, and he went ape trying to get back out.  They are used to hiding during the heat and cold, so they have adapted.  I hope whoever abandoned them, or was responsible for their being left here rots in hell.  As soon as I can figure out how to afford it, there is a place here that will spay/neuter ferals and bring them back.  Sissy is the next one, she's pregnant again.  Toby is SUCH a horndog!

And I can't help but take pics.....they are just soooooo adorable, I go "SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE" everytime I see them!  I just want to hug them, and squeeze them and call them George!  They prolly don't know what their names are yet, but they'll tell me sooner or later.  ZOMG!!!!!  The cyoooootness is just toooo much!

soul2share -> RE: What is your cat doing? (9/26/2011 10:52:28 PM)

This is what my computer desk looks like when I sit down......and it stays this way til I go to bed!  Scuze the clutter......and just as a frame of reference, the monitor that KB's in front of is a 17" one, and the other two are laying on TV tray tables.  They hang off of them more than they are on them!!!!  I have cow kittehs, even Squeaks is huge!

LundDoms4aslave -> RE: What is your cat doing? (9/27/2011 7:37:32 AM)

well the grey kitteh on the left is what my mystic is. solid gray body with darker grey rings on her tail so yea. i call her my grey tabby cuz thats the only think i can think of that her breed is.

as for what she has been up to today has been nothing but chaos so far she has now gotten to the point that she antagonizes blondie to chase her then gets pissed when blondie corners and pins her to the ground LOL. right now from what i can figure out she is hiding in the window up behind daddy on the couch.
