WOW ! Angel and Spooky look so much alike (except Spook has blue eyes). Spooky weighs even more, he's pretty chunky. The vet calls him 'buff.'

Unfortunately, he's not smart enough to throw his weight around. Trilby wins all the jousting matches - and he only weighs in at around 9 lbs.

Yes, Spooky and Angel do look alike, except for eye color and Angel being a little less chunky. Though you would never guess it from the picture, Angel's eye are a sea green color.

While not the smartest cat I've ever had, fortunately she is reasonably intelligent and light years ahead of Dusty. I let her outside a few hours in the evening and she's a good outdoor huntress. She has caught lizards, birds, and snakes (even brought a snake into the house once).

I only like to let her outside when I'm home because she likes to terrorize the neighbor's outdoor cats. If I'm home, I hear the skirmish and can go out and break it up. Being the cat queen of her house isn't good enough for her. She wants to be the cat queen of the neighborhood.

The irony of it all is that as mean as she is to other cats, she's just the sweetest thing with people.

Angel is having a great time with her Christmas gift. She got a new catnip stuffed toy that looks like a little teddy bear. She's having a great time stalking and pouncing on it. Misty is thinking, "Better it than me."

Misty got the same toy and showed a mild interest in it for a few minutes. However, she decided hanging out with me by the computer was more interesting and left her toy.

ETA: It just started snowing. Angel has abandoned her toy and is watching the snow come down. Not something she sees very often around here.

Hopefully this picture posts - I got Viktor a Spin Master V-Jay scratch set. He ignored it totally and played with the box it came in.

Misty was squinting with her right eye this morning and I was concerned about her. Thankfully, her eye is back to normal tonight. If it had not been, I was going to take her to the vet. She must have just gotten a speck of dust in her eye. I was concerned that Angel might have taken a swat at her, though I was at home and thought that surely Misty would have let out quite a yelp if that had happened.

I have a new little kitten - he likes to hide under furniture and then spring out and leap on my leg when I walk by, but he doesn't put his little claws out - so it's like he's giving me surprise kitty hugs! I love him :)

LOL. My sons had a cat like that. Except he wasn't a kitten he was a full grown tom and he didn't keep his claws in. At one point he had some other name but we all called him "Stupid".

I'll never forget the time my son was playing PC games on the computer late at night. His hoodie was hanging over the back of the chair. Stupid decides to climb up the back of the chair... and the hood of the hoodie... neatly strangling my son and causing the chair to tilt precipitously backwards. So the cat leaps to the wall shelves above the computer pretty much bringing everything crashing down in a heap on the floor.

I miss owning a cat.

I have 'dangerous curtain' syndrome.

The two young cats like to hide behind curtains and pounce. However stealth is not their strongest point and you can normally spot a 'loaded' curtain by the protruding tail.....

Nueva, are you sure it's not more than a cold? Unbeknownst to me, I have an upper respiratory infection/feline herpes carrier here....I don't know who brought it in, maybe Bitty, and now knowing what I know, that's probably what happened to his eye when he was a kitten. KB started sneezing, but he's always been prone to fits of sneezing, so I never thought anything about it, but then Bitty started sneezing, and his only eye left started to leak water.....the weekend before Christmas, with me not knowing a vet in the area that was open so I could get antibiotics to stave off the eye infection. I was terrified of him losing his last eye...I got online and found an old yahoo group about URI's in cats, and one poster suggested checking in fish stores, as in tropical, to look for fish antibiotics. I needed them fast, the online places would take at least 3 days to get it to me, so I found a shop here that actually had amoxicillin. Pharmaceutical grade, but since it was marketed for fish infections, I didn't need a prescription. So I mixed 500 mg of it w/1/3 cup water and kept it in the fridge. The dose is .2cc's per pound.....2 cc's, twice a day in their food. And I also found out online that L-Lysine will stunt the development of the herpes virus that causes the URI in cats.....within 48 hours of giving Bitty the Lysine, his eye was looking better, within 4 days of the lysine and amoxicillin, his eye is fine now. I'm also giving it to Mooch, since his eye is leaking fluid too. The Lysine has worked wonders in the others....only an occasional sneeze now, and everyone appears to be healthy.

Why do kittehs pick the worst times to develop symptoms? The Saturday before Christmas, and everyone's off for it! OY!

Angel is turning into quite the wuss. She pulled her sneaky number of waiting until she heard the key in the lock, then darting outside like a white streak. However, she was wailing on the porch to come back in within 3 minutes. She thinks 36 degrees is way too cold.

This am, instead of waking to the dulcet jangle of my alarm clock at 12:30pm, I was rudely awakened at noon by the sounds and thrills of a cat fight taking place on my bed. Boo had attacked Squeaks, she ran across the bed shrieking and screaming, ran away back across the bed with Boo in hot pursuit. KB then tried to stop the fight, and Boo attacked him. This wasn't just rough play, Boo meant business! I have no idea why both the boys dislike Squeaks, she's never done anything to them, they've terrorized her since day 1. She came into the house as an adult cat, Bitty came in as a 6 week old kitten....I often wonder if that has anything to do with them accepting Bitty but not Squeaks. I have no idea what set Boo off, just 2 hours earlier, both he and squeaks were sleeping on the same bed. Fortunately, he didn't really get hold of Squeaks, so it was more her fear and screaming. I was really hoping that no one heard it and called the cops......now THAT would be embarrassing! And yes, it's happened to me once before, about 20 years ago.

I am reposting this here as many of you are not on the admit thread.

After a long fight with kidney failure and two hospitalizations since October, we had our girl's cat put to sleep this afternoon. Angelina Ballerina crossed the rainbow bridge to be reunited with her brother Thor, The Miniature God of Thunder, as well as her cousins Pepper, Patches, Kayto, Kim and Trixie. Her time with us here was too short, but she will never be forgotten.

So very sorry, ydd. That's heartbreaking.

Jeff. Viktor's taken to just sitting on it, now.

soul2share, thanks for that tip. About once a year he gets what seems like a head cold. Last month, though, he had one eye that was watery and crusty - I'd wash it a couple of times a day and then it went away. Maybe it's time for a check up at the vet.

Speaking of...I'm curious, since Viktor is my first cat - do you guys take your kitties for annual check ups/physicals? Do you recommend doing so? If you do this, what does the vet check out - blood tests? Anything else? Thanks in advance...

Yes, I take the kitties for annual check ups/physicals and for whatever vaccinations are needed. I definitely recommend doing so. Several years ago, an ex-sub accidentally left the door open and poor Misty got outside and was missing for a month. She is strictly an indoor cat. I had all of her vaccinations, including rabies, up to date and was very thankful that I did. I got her back home and in not too bad of shape. The vet always questions me as to whether I want her to have a rabies shot, since she's indoor only, and I tell them emphatically yes after that experience. Angel is indoor/outdoor, so she gets the rabies vaccination without any questions.

The vet usually takes their temperature, checks their heart rate, weighs them, takes a look inside their mouth and at their teeth, checks their ears, eyes, and fur, and feels them all over for any types of growths or tumors. They also do a fecal exam.

I had not been getting blood tests for the cats. However, when I went in last June, the vet strongly recommended that any cat over 15 get blood tests. Since Misty is over 15, I followed his recommendation and got one for her. It's a good thing, too, because it turns out she has Chronic Renal Failure and I am able to take some proactive measures. She exhibited no symptoms whatsoever and only the blood test detected it. Since Angel is only 6 and appears to be in excellent health, the vet didn't recommend blood tests for her.

You would think I would have learned my lesson. A few years ago, I left a pineapple upside down cake out to cool and one of the cats jumped up on the counter and licked the top of it. Tonight, I left a piece of carrot cake out and walked into the kitchen to find Misty up on the counter licking the cream cheese frosting. Hopefully she did not get too much of it because it's not good for her. It grossed me out and I threw the piece of cake away. It's just as well because I didn't really need it. Misty saved me several hundred calories.

Thank you, MysticFireTopaz! Last year was the first year I didn't have an annual exam for him - he's a strictly indoor guy, too, but I do like to take precautions in case he gets out. He's chipped, and always has a collar on with an ID tag. Just wasn't sure about the check ups, and wanted to know what others did.

I don't have to worry about any cats now but when I had Silkie, I had her checked out because she was a rescue from a kitty mill. She had to have antibiotics for her eyes. She also loved getting into tight areas and if given a chance, to sneak outside on the patio.
