Walking is a good exercise and is fairly low impact. One thing you can do is to vary your walking speed. Part of the time just do a leisurely stroll and other times do more of a power walk so that you are getting anaerobic benifits from the time spent. Bored with walking? Skip for a while! You'll get some stares....and a lot of smiles. Do your walk with the rythem of the Country 2-Step for a while...quick, quick, slow, slow, quick, quick, slow, slow. If you already know the dance then throw in some spin and turn patterns. I see in your profile that you enjoy bicycling...so once or twice a week trade the walking for bicycling...it will exercise different muscles letting the "walking" muscles rest and rebuild. It also breaks up the boredom of walking every day. If possible, walk with a friend or a group. It's amazing how quickly the time will go by when you are chatting instead of thinking about the walking. Music can be good...but please be careful. Many people start listening to the music and forget to be VERY mindful about their surroundings. With music it is harder to hear surrounding traffic and people, and there are some people that will find someone listening to music to be easy prey. When I was running I kept a log, listing my miles, time spent, how i felt, and even how many miles i had on my shoes. Had one pair of Nikes that had over 700 miles on them before i retired them to work shoes. Other than that, just have fun and enjoy.
