Doing the Math.

2 years longer than my Grandmother had to wait for me.

The women in my family get knocked up early.

I was 27 when I had my midget so I was an Old Maid in that resect (Not that men can be old maids)

Congrats

Just remember how hard it was for you when you had your youngin and try to remember why it was good for you that it was so hard and let your youngin learn things the same way you did. Not having a lot of help made me grow up and stand against my responsibilities that much faster.

My first was born just a few weeks before my 41st birthday.

The way I look at it, I am still young enough to play with them, wrestle on the floor, take them hiking, ride dirt bikes with them, take them to the pool swimming and actually swim, and all the other fun stuff my grandparents could not do with me.

Grandkids are your reward for not strangling your teenagers.  Congrads

windchymes -> RE: 38 is way to young.. (8/18/2009 1:23:47 PM)

Well, I made it to the ripe old age of 48 before I had mine, but it's no less or more wonderful!  Enjoy!!!!! [:)]

BKSir -> RE: 38 is way to young.. (8/18/2009 1:28:01 PM)

Congratulations! [:D]

Just remember.  Grandparents and grandchildren are natural born allies against one common enemy... the parents!

MissCake -> RE: 38 is way to young.. (8/18/2009 1:57:47 PM)

It is entirely possible I could become a grandparent any time, but if it happens, some little man is going to get his pito tied in a knot.  Congratulations and have a wonderful time with the new addition to your family.

Realize the passage of time. Live long enough to see the little one grow to drive  a car, as well as the Parents up a wall.

More rights and less rsponsibilties, you have paid your dues.

Enjoy.

*Sighs happily

thanks so much for all the sweet messages everyone.

i was so exausted when i made the post announcement.. that i din't have the energy to give the specifics: and thought that i prob should come back to give a lil more info before i go to work.

My daughter and her husband have given the name : Kailynn, she came into the world at 8:50 am, a whole 19 3/4 inches long, and weighing 7lbs 1 oz.

i was allowed to be present at the birth, after many many months of asking sweetly, and eventually begging, in which i was given permission, only within the final moments of labor. i think she realized i deserved to be there, after all the work i did in helping her through the day and half of labor. Before that, i'd promised to step into the waiting room for the birth itself.

Wow though, being THERE..watching.. and not having to be the PATIENT in the bed (done THAT...five times) was every bit as good as i thought it might be,and i am ever so humbly grateful that my daughter changed her mind. Its amazing what a lil different change of location does as far as visibility, that is..till the tears fill the eyes, then its not so much a better view.

Congrats!

I am glad you were able to share it that way.

This might make you feel better:

I knew a woman who had her first great-grandchild... at 39.

GreedyTop -> RE: 38 is way to young.. (8/19/2009 7:57:03 AM)

FWIW .. my mom's grandkids are all furbabies (with no hope that they'll ever be hooman babies)

LaTigresse -> RE: 38 is way to young.. (8/19/2009 10:49:22 AM)

OMG YES!!! I got to be there, in the delivery room, when all three of mine were born. Whatever hell my son's ex has put him through since, I will be eternally thankful that she wanted me there to experience the birth of my grandsons.

My daughter would have disowned me had I not been there. She thought it was hugely funny that her husband and I were eating breakfast, in the corner, not long before my grand daughter decided to make her grand entrance. Calling out encouragement, between bites of eggs and sausage, of course.

windchymes -> RE: 38 is way to young.. (8/19/2009 1:41:32 PM)

Oh, I am sooooooooooooooo envious of all of you who got to be in the delivery room!  I wanted to so badly, and my daughter-in-law even said it was okay, but since she was a c-section (scheduled, even) the doctor wouldn't let more than one in with her, which would be my son, the daddy.

I'm hoping maybe I can be for the next one.....
