TearsofLove92 -> What is your safe word? (8/23/2009 6:55:20 PM)

Just curious to know of everybody's safe word of choice?

With me, I usually agree with my slaves that unless she is gagged, the safe word is "Taco Bell". Why? *shrug* I guess because we find humor in the concept of it all, really.

In my mind, I don't accept that I have a safeword. I trust my partner and know I can usually communicate just fine in plain language, but he has set up the traffic light system for me (green=go go go, yellow=problem, but not ready to be done, red=STOP something is very badly wrong). I learned my lesson playing with a different partner when it comes to verbal safewords while gagged. I now prefer to have a nonverbal means available, such as dropping something (I have a red scarf for that which is placed in my hand). Except with someone early in the going, I have never needed my safeword, but they are there anyway.

None of my ex slaves needed safewords, as I don't play until I figure out all of the flaws and all of the negative things that can happen with them, and by that point, it's pretty common sense, though still, I give them the "Taco Bell" speech, just in case.

I used to tap my former owner (when i couldn't talk) or used the words red and ferret.

TearsofLove92 -> RE: What is your safe word? (8/23/2009 7:15:59 PM)

"Red" is the common one used, I find, ferret on the other hand has a ring to it. I steal. :)

SweetNika -> RE: What is your safe word? (8/23/2009 7:17:26 PM)

We used ferret b/c it would definately make him stop and say wtf if it was shouted out of the blue. lol We used to laugh about it.

Ferrity Taco Bell.......bwahaha. Wow, silly mood time for me I guess.

Don't have one, never did. If I have a problem I just tell him what the problem is in plain old English and then he decides what to do from there...continue or fix the problem or stop altogether.

All of them? That's an impossibility. There's no way you can know the millions of possibilities of what can happen, the negatives, flaws, positives, etc...I would try just paying attention instead.

Not every single cell that could possibly blow up and cause a massive chain reaction, no, but in depth talking about weaknesses of the body is useful for many things, safety being just one of them. :)

We use red, yellow, and green as all the people we know use.  In public dungeons we go to the universal safe word is usually "safe word."

We thought about this long and hard and decided, "Get the hell away from me you skeevy bastard!" would communicate clearly. That works for us because we don't do any "scenes" so there is never any time when "no" might mean something else other than "no".

indeed, the concept that a "word" will keep one "safe" is funny.

Someone I run into on this board every now and again has a signature saying that goes: "MotherFUCKER! is not a safeword."
I like that..
A long long time ago, when once My name would have shown up here in pink instead of red, I once forbore a relationship with an older Dom who said He didn't believe in safewords. As soon as the words left His mouth, I lost every intention of letting Him touch Me.
Yes, I believe in safewords, and think they should always be used in casual play as well as any experimental play with a known subject. Allow Me to quantify that statement by saying that I am hoping to eventually, with patience and clear perception and love, cultivate the sort of relationship with My slave in which safewords are no longer necessary, because Wwe have come to know each other so well. It can be done (hi, mercnbeth).
How about something which is like unto ye olde stoplight system (green for go, yellow for slow down or something median like that, and red of course for stop, duh), except it's 'brave' instead of yellow and CHIEF! instead of red.
DoYyou think that either more complex or simpler words are best for Yyou?

That's the thing. With the OP's approximate experience in mind, having partners use safewords sounds like a great idea especially since it appears he will honor them. I don't think I would want to discourage him from using them at this point in time. As he gains experience and, more importantly, experience with a specific partner, they become less and less necessary. My partner had a good base of experience before we met. He insisted upon giving safewords to me since I was new TO HIM. I found very quickly that he read me well and I didn't have need of them with him. He also took things slow like gagging and bondage until he was more sure of MY reactions. Once he knew he had a good handle on the ways my body would express, he went on into these practices. I more or less dropped the desire or even any feeling of need to use safewords due to how he had handled things in the past. He knows this, but has let me know that they are still there if there comes a time I feel I need them. I guess if the room is on fire behind him or something I might be so inclined, but that is about it.

I have just found that over time, I have outgrown any need of a safeword when I am with my partner. I insisted upon it when I played with others, but now that I don't, I doubt I will ever use them again. Due to the noise at a club and the intensity of a session, he did give me something to drop in the event he couldn't hear my responses well enough. I wound up dropping it more as a reflexive action and he did end things when I did. I was disappointed with myself because it really wasn't what I wanted. We picked things up later after a break. The environment was a bit quieter and things ended when they ended. That felt so much more satisfying to me.

OP, it is great you want to use safety procedures in your practices! I like seeing someone who is trying to do all they can to demonstrate they are trustworthy. You may find a time when you and your partner do outgrow the need of them. This is a great thing too. Do keep an open mind on the subject as I know it is one that I have changed views on over time. Good luck!
