I was never convinced that either side of the nature/nurture argument was absolute. So, stipulating that there was sufficient and good 'nurturing', especially from the nuns who had me during my formative years; I'd represent there is at least an equal amount of 'nature' involved in my current identity.

LillyoftheVally -> RE: How do you Id? (8/27/2009 11:01:26 AM)

Sex and gender are two different things to me

Sex - I am a female biologically

Gender to me is socially constructed. Today I was sitting with a mother and daughter and it dawned on me how similar they were, in terms of how they took medicine and stuff like that. Gender is the thing that causes the issues, women should be, men should be.

Sexuality, I use the term bisexual but really that is something slightly irrelevant too, a bit like the gender thing I am not attracted to sexual organs I am attracted to people.

BDSM orientation. I have it as switch on my profile, which isn't really accurate, I am submissive not dominant but I am really sadistic.

In terms of whether it is needed or not, to me not really. The latter is only good for working out who wants what I want in relationships. The only meanings that are important are those you give yourself and the ones that people you are interested in hold.

I identify as bossy female

quote:

Do you Id differently in different contexts?

No, I pretty much always identify as a bossy female. If you want specifics, though... I am physically and intellectually female, my sexual orientation is balanced bisexual, and my personality is controlling/authoritarian, which pretty much sticks me on the "bossy female" end of things.

quote:

Do you feel it necessary to have to state gender…on a work application, CV, on a profile on Face Book, Collarme? Alt.com? and so on?

I typically only respond where it is relevant and gripe about the rest.

quote:

Why do you feel it necessary or unnecessary?

Actually, I don't see a point for it at all unless one is dating and looking for a specific gender match or for medical reasons. Aside from that, I think gender identification (on job applications, random questionnaires, etc.) is irrelevant.

Dame Calla

works for me [:D]

I identify as a Butlerite, so take the fact I consider both gender and sexuality to be things that are performed, as opposed to things that define us, as written.

Gender:  I identify as male, without necessarily buying into all the connotations that come with the social construction that is maleness.  I pick out the bits I like and discard the rest.

Sexuality: Hobosexual.  But only because I find that funny.  Apart from that, I identify as het, but not straight.  The first merely suggests who I'm attracted to for me, whereas the second strikes me as more of a social signifier.

BDSM orientation:  I have a dominant personality and prefer to be dominant in relationships, so that makes me a dominant in essence.  But really I just do what I like and if anyone else likes it it's a bonus.  So that could be described as the "shit indie band" approach to BDSM.

Philosophical School:  Hitchikerian.  Which is a very serious attempt to live my life as if I was Zaphod Beeblebrox.

Wanna watch whilst I slip into something a lil more Freudian?

slip out of, is more my view of therapy.

RavenMuse -> RE: How do you Id? (8/27/2009 1:21:47 PM)

Who I get on with or even flirt with if in the right mood, all that is required is sufficient IQ and a cool personality. However for them to push the right buttons for Me to want to take that further then submissive and female need adding to the mix.... Which I guess makes Me 'straight Dominant'

CaringandReal -> RE: How do you Id? (8/27/2009 4:27:25 PM)

I want to know how one turns off one's Id. :p

(not really)

I think of myself... let's see, let's make this fun, as trisexually monogamous, but also quite unilateral about it. I don't mind the plumbing, but I do very much care if the water shoots up or down. (I prefer down). Formerly owned and widowed-subcategory "over it." Breed? Very bright black labrador.
