heh ... I was reading through this thread and had reached much the same conclusion, Lucy.

Is it any wonder though? Religion and politics are about the 2 most contentious subjects imaginable, and people who like to discuss religion and politics are often a) highly committed to their ideals or b) fond of arguing for the sake of it or c) complete horse's arses or d) all of the above. Is it any wonder those sorts of threads rapidly degenerate into "tis, you commie bastard!" and "t'isn't, you conservative asswipe!" arguments?

Mind you, I'm a liberal, so I would say that

We need to unite against the common enemy - the Judean People's Front!

Ya know, DK, the term "lied" is both inflammatory, and - as you and other hardcore lefties use it - generally inaccurate.

It wasn't a condemnation because it wasn't truthful. That you deny the facts doesn't mean you get your own version of history. You've never even come close to proving your claim and in every single case where I've challenged you on it you simply failed. You know it.

LOL! Ken, I have tried to be accomodating and give you some illustrations of how I came to the position I now hold, but don't confuse that with me somehow granting you authority to be the arbiter of my opinion. I haven't, and you ain't. None are so blind as those who refuse to see.

The fact remains, Ken, that I do make my feelings about hate-speech known to those who share some of my political views, and you are desperately scrambling to avoid acknowledging that you have no such foundation to stand on when cheerleading that the right needs to tone it down.

Thing is, everyone else will have to take our word for it. Sanity has, on occasion, berated liberal posters for not publically taking their colleagues to task. Under those circumstances there's no point in my posting that i've done so privately because he'll call me a liar in all likelihood or ask for specific examples. You're getting the same treatment as i might but from DK.
It's a matter of trust......and the polarisation of opinion here makes that difficult for some.

...i'd forgotten that one. You may have caught me telling Brain off in some other thread too.......and, er......blast, forgot his name........but i've gone public a couple of times. Mostly however i make my feelings known privately. i'm sure you do too.......
Doesn't detract from my primary point though......it's basically a trust issue where virtually no trust exists.
