You know Brain, I grant that Maher often has a point,but he couches it in such a barricade of partisan bullshit and belittling of non-left wingers that it really ceases to even be satire. He has no subtlety or even any sense of comic timing. In the few seconds I bothered watching your link he basically accused those taking part in the demonstartion of being idiots and illiterate.

Don't get me wrong, I agree with a lot of his positions (he is one of the few American public figures whom I consider even left of centre), but he has very little class...I see very little difference between what he does and what Rush does..except that Maher proclaims himself a comedian.

I think that Maher is very often a good place to start a discussion, but by no means can he be considered a source for anything factual...the guy is, to be blunt...a left-wing hack.

You would do your side a better service if you wouldn't keep citing him as any sort of authority...he's a very,VERY partisan comedian who has very little interest in the factual details of the stuff he uses to attack his opponents. He doesn't have to make sure he has the details right because he is doing "satire"..and not that subtly at that.

You live in Canada,if you want to see how political satire should be done just watch The Rick Mercer Report or even better The Air Farce, which has got to be the longest running political satire show period...they make fun of whoever is in power regardless of who it is...they are so respected that they have even gotten public figures to willingly appear on their show to be ridiculed, THAT is political satire, not the lame-ass partisan shit that Maher dishes out.

In case you didn't know, Rick Mercer got Bob Rae to strip naked and be filmed (and broadcast nationwide) jumping off a dock into a lake while said Mr Rae was running for leader of the Liberal party (roughly like running in the primaries for you Americans)

I don’t agree with you because I listened to all of it and he made jokes about the congress, Nancy Pelosi, and Joe Biden. I thought he was fair to both sides and brilliant. I look forward to watching him in the future. I see a huge difference between him and Rush Limbaugh, Rush is a liar and when Bill tells jokes they are inclusive of the truth. As for Canadian politics I know it intimately and these days I find it predictable and boring.

Brain, i like to think your heart is in the right place..........but if you seriously can't detect the partisanship of Maher then you've got a screw loose. Also, if you think that Canadian politics are boring or predictable less than a year after the GG allowed Harper to porogue parliament in order to avoid a vote of no confidence, Iggy taking control of the Liberals, deficit estimates growing every time Jim Flaherty opens his mouth then that screw has probably fallen out and is even now rolling perilously towards a drain.

Yes, Bill Maher did have new rules this week.- and I must say this is a classic and belongs in the is the Smithsonian Institute.

Hey Brain, you live in Canada, so you have the constitutionally protected right to be as wrong as you want to be.
So you think Bill Maher is non-partisan...fucking bullshit..the guy is a left-wing hack...I agree with most of his points but to consider him as any sort of legitimate source of news is akin to asking LL Cool J what he thinks.

He's a left-wing political satirist (and not that good of one at that), his shtick is so fucking obviously biased, and so deliberately outrageous (calling all who disagree with him idiots) that he really is close to ceasing to be a comedian and becoming a DNC mouthpiece. In fact from my point of view he has already crossed that line. He's a fucking left-wing hack, who abuses his position on national TV to encourage division and polarity in US public opinion. The guy is funny as Hell, and is damned smart (almost as smart as me

) but he isn't by any possible definition of non-partisan.

I understand how you can think I have a screw loose and don’t know what I’m talking about. But when I say I was intimately involved in politics that is the truth. I was heavily involved and am quite familiar with how the process unfolds. That’s why it was predictable and boring for me. Don’t be surprised if the NDP support the Conservatives because it’s not in their interest to have an election right now. I expect Harper to work something out with the NDP and avoid an election.

You were correct in your comment however about the Gov. Gen. I was quite disappointed with the decision she made. Her decision was incorrect as I followed the matter closely at the time and don’t remember all the details now but based on precedent the government did not have the confidence of the House and it was correct to bring the government down and call an election. The government was quite dysfunctional and she should have called an election. I think the government is dysfunctional now and we could have another election but we don’t know for sure what that would bring, perhaps it might be more of the same, or it may result in a Liberal minority government which I don’t think would be much of a change in governing.

I think the Gov. Gen. revealed her political inexperience and I think she was intimidated by the process and the prime minister. I think she was more interested in doing what was popular at the time and at the time most Canadians did not want an election. I don’t think the Conservatives can win a majority now because of their anti-Québec separatist rhetoric.

Not great to be talking about Canadian politics again, I really do find it boring, compared to Trudeau, John Chretien and Brian Mulroney these guys seem like lightweights. Canadian politics, more reruns than Law and Order. Harper and Ignatief, neither inspire or impress, probably not a dime of difference between them and we have to spend $300 million to find out.
