Excerpt of the Presidents speech;

"The story of America isn’t about people who quit when things got tough.
It’s about people who kept going, who tried harder, who loved their
country too much to do anything less than their best."

scarlethiney -> RE: The "Speach" (9/7/2009 4:55:45 PM)

My post was in reference to Treasures post about spelling mistakes which I found snarky and unnecessary. And yes, my post was meant to "stand out" for that very reason. Glad you got that.[8|]

I guess I'm missing the point since what I read on the other thread indicated that the problem for the majority of people was the materials sent out prior to the speech being posted not the speech itself. I do find ironic the claims by posters here that we conservatives need to stop demonizing and slamming Obama and the cries to change the tone of threads. Which is then followed swiftly by the same posters continuing to slam people who don't share your beliefs. This thread is sure to change the tone here. Nice work.

Sometimes we have to look at where the stories originate. I posted a link on where this one began.

here is what i posted....

quote:

A speech by President Obama has prompted accusations of "indoctrinating" America's youth and calls for "transparency" -- nearly a week before it is scheduled to be delivered to the nation's school children.

The U.S. Department of Education last week announced plans for the president to speak "directly to the nation's school children about persisting and succeeding in school" -- as Secretary Arne Duncan wrote in an email letter sent to principals at more than 100,000 schools.

The 15- to 20-minute address is scheduled for Sept. 8, the first day of school for many districts, at Wakefield High School in Arlington, Va., and will be broadcast over the Internet, on C-SPAN and via satellite for access by local broadcast outlets and school districts.

But the plan has encountered resistance this week, most notably in a statement from Jim Greer, chairman of the Florida Republican party:

"As the father of four children, I am absolutely appalled that taxpayer dollars are being used to spread President Obama's socialist ideology," the letter began. "The idea that school children across our nation will be forced to watch the President justify his plans for government-run health care, banks, and automobile companies, increasing taxes on those who create jobs, and racking up more debt than any other President, is not only infuriating, but goes against beliefs of the majority of Americans, while bypassing American parents through an invasive abuse of power."

As the statement drew attention from blogs and cable TV news shows, some conservative sites began calling for a "National Skip Day" on Sept. 8th to prevent children from being exposed to "Obama propaganda."

The idea that this could be said about anyone, by anyone, before the information of what the speech actually contained is what sparked MY interest in this. The Republican comment was based upon those who are staunch supports of anything Republican vs anything Democratic speaking up and out about, yet again, things not in evidence.

OrionTheWolf -> RE: The "Speech" (9/7/2009 5:31:26 PM)

What are you looking for, a bunch of flaming and snarky comments? You seem to be prodding for something.

tazzygirl -> RE: The "Speach" (9/7/2009 5:33:22 PM)

we all look for something Master Orion.

tonight, i am merely enjoying myself, rolling with the flow, and having a bit of fun.

OrionTheWolf -> RE: The "Speach" (9/7/2009 5:36:49 PM)

Yes I know we all look for something, but you seem to be spoiling for a fight about this. Not sure how that will help anything.

I am glad you posted the link. As an independent conservative I was never really concerned about the speech, as many Presidents have addressed our school kids before. I am so unconcerned I didn't even bother following the link.

Arpig -> RE: The "Speach" (9/7/2009 5:37:05 PM)

Perhaps she is hoping that some of those who were so adamantly opposed in the other thread on this subject to admit they were wrong? Perhaps one of them admitting that Obama really had no intent to indoctrinate anybody?

tazzygirl -> RE: The "Speach" (9/7/2009 5:38:45 PM)

i am a hopeless romantic and often get accused of wearing rose colored glasses... but even i wouldnt hold out for that... lol
