difference between slave and submissive - 2/28/2006 6:26:47 PM

I just met a slave who I will be interviewing at a restaurant tomorrow, over the phone, he told me a bit about his last experience where he was in a staple with two other slaves and how, at one point, he even turned over his paycheck to his Domme. She had cages for the three in her spare bedroom and all three obviously served her.

While much of what he spoke of appealled to me, some of it was a little extensive for me. I do want total control but there is something exciting about it being very voluntary and not a breaking down of a slave as he described. There is a little more to what he said and I am giving a general overview. I understand that doesn't have to be for me.

What I would like to know is, what is the difference between a submissive and a slave. Is there a difference at all?

To me, using the word slave and submissive is a preference. After all what does a slave do? Submit. I interchange the words quite often but on a day to day basis, that doesnt change the fact, I am Masters slave *submitting* to His authority and ownership.

I think though different people enjoy different depths of that submission, I dont think there is a measurement line where one goes from being a submissive to a slave.

I know that this is not what you probably want to hear... but do a search for this. There are many threads containing these.

Generally, my understanding has been a submissive retains negotiating rights per scene, or whatever. A slave relinquishes all decisions to the Master/Mistress. However, there are no rules in stone. You can decide what the difference is to You.

Submotive had it down. A submissive gives the gift of their submission while a slave gives over all rights. I always ask people if they understand that. Most do not and consider them the same so it is important to make sure you understand each other. Some respect limits of both while others don't

yes, I know I could research this. I asked because I wanted to know what you all thought. I wanted to have a discussion, to hear from others.

Sub vs slave is probably the Top Most Discussed thing in BDSM, or at least in the top three.

Everything comes down to: Most people saying "It's whatever you say it is," a few people saying "Subs can choose and slaves can't," a few people saying "There's no difference at all," and a few people saying "I know best, you all suck."

That doesn't mean it's not worth discussing anew every now and then, but since the topic literally comes up every other week, it's hard to get another discussion revved about it.

Trust me, if no one posts about this topic for two months and then makes a post about it, it will get lots of responses.

Okay then... I understand this. IMHO... a slave is one that has given up all control and rights to a Master/Mistress. It is like this... a submissive can go home at the end of the scene and even act like it didnt happen... a slave lives it, usaully 24/7. Does that give you any thoughts or help you in any way??

No because I could drag out a thousand subs who would say that's not at all true for them.

Okay... sorry let me put it this way. This is the way that it worked for me. The difference that I experienced when I went from being a submissive to being an owned slave.

and a few saying they are offended that anyone would even use the word, slave, as a descriptor~ because there have been instances of negative connotation in history that bother them

and a few who insist there is "no such thing" as a slave, because they personally haven't met one that meets their criteria

and a few that will say slave is just a "deeper level" of submissive, a progression of sorts

and a few grammar nazi's reminding us that submissive is an adjective or adverb while slave is a noun

Now, to me, that definition is of a bottom, not a submissive.
