1. Have you ever had them for a substantial time (more than once)
2. Do you feel it worked and gave you more energy
3. How often did you have them
4. Would you recommend getting them?

My mom gets a B-12 shot every month. About 12 years ago she was diagnosed with pernicious anemia and her body will not absorb B-12, so she gets a shot into her muscle. Without this she would die. She says that the shot is painful and it leaves her with a big bruise every month.

It gives her what she needs to be healthy and to function and she will have to have a shot for the rest of her life.

I haven't heard of this done unless the body cannot absorb B-12 any other way, so if it isn't medically necessary I don't have any experience with it.

I had a wonderful MD who did prescribe them for me.
However, I never went to the office for them.
She wrote me out an RX and I did them myself, 2x/week.
It was easy and very cheap.

Hi kyra, here there are not that hard to get, nor do you really need a medical reason. They had flu shots at my work today and gave us a list of all stuff they provide simply by paying the cost for same. You can get a Vitamin B-12 shot for 20 bucks once a month and you get your birthday month free lol. I have never heard of them being painful though -- shudders soo not a pain slut.

I just don't know if they work and would be worth the money. And if i should only get one once a month or are there different ways of getting them so they are more effective etc.

AngelikaJ, thats what i would want to find if i could. Did you find they really benefit you? Did you feel the energy they are supposed to provide?

I did them in my thigh and did not find them to be painful.

They did help me.

I also found the product Emergen-C to be helpful in that regard.

1. Yes I did a b12/b6 shot mix once a week for over 10 months.
2. Yes. I also felt that it aided in boosting my metabolism.
3. once a week.
4. Yes, if I could afford to get them still I would - I've opted to take a b complex vitamin pill twice a week.

I did the B-12 shot for not quite a year and a half every month, because blood tests had shown I was deficient. For me, they never did anything. Didn't fix my massive energy issues, nor help my metabolism. Ironicly enough, they never seemed to effect the levels shown in my blood work either. Same thing with pills, and subliguals. I gave up and I just focus on eating foods that naturally have more b-12 in them.

Mine were always given in the arm, and beyond my own "I hate needles" squickyness I can't say they were painful. I would tell you its worth a try, and it is more effective then oral methods (which depending on who you talk to, may or may not work at all.)

Angel..just an FYI.....the body does not absorb B-12 in pill form, so it is a waste of money to go that route, if you were going to try the vitamins.

Hey Holly, yeah i have been told that which is why i am thinking shudders -- the shots. But many places i look into speak of it as a monthly thing and its hard to imagine a shot lasting that long lol. Its one of those sounds great but is it concept lol.

i've had them in the past because my b-12 levels plummeted. i had to come in three weeks in a row to receive a shot to bring them up. i can't say that i was energized, but my dizzy spells ceased when things stabilized. if you're wanting to go this route you can take the liquid b-12 complex. it is available over the counter at most major drug retailers.

other avenues for energy include ginseng or super b-complex. i take both and noticed a boost when i began. i found i needed far less sleep and was usually buzzing about most of the day.

Honey...if you have been diagnosed with Pernicious Anemia there is really no other way. You couldn't possibly eat enough of the foods high in B-12 to make a difference.

And as far as the shot lasting a month...it is injected into the muscle and does take a few weeks (at least) to work its way out of the body. The birth control shots work in the same manner, i suppose...and Cortisone shots.

I am really curious as to how they work for you...let me know...ok?

We used to hit up on tabs of b12 in the 60s to get higher with acid as it eats up b12. it worked then.. you could drop a lot of acid and it would stop functioning because b12 would give out. maybe this is a myth. but i did notice these things happen. the acid would stop functioning and bang; b12 would up your high.

b12 is usually bonded to protein. mollusks and clams being way up there. but regular salmon is a decent source.
