I don't know how to run a background check... but I know that you can look on state websites to find convictions!  My former slave has one--a gun charge!  Yep, Mr Anger Management got caught, thankfully after we were parted.  Now, THAT is the kind of thing I would want to know about a person if I saw them acting in ways that I wasn't sure about---and if someone were to ask me about him in regards to having a relationship with him, well, the court system holds a bit more weight than my own experiences, right?

Regarding "suing" someone for defamation, etc.:  you can only do that with success if you can PROVE that you have lost income over the attack.  Not that you were annoyed, or that your pastor didn't want you sitting in the front row.  That your LIVELIHOOD was affected.  Otherwise, suck it up, snowflake.

Congratulations. You did a good deed & got your name in the paper.

Big deal. Been there, done that, got the cookie, the shirt, & the medal. I saved my neighborhood from a wildfire back in '99 when I lived in Florida. What's your point?

You may not care who I tell.... but I can guarentee you, that you'd care if you started getting creepy ass calls in the middle of the night from some random dipfuck who wanted to murder your kids, because... *gasp* some dipshit released info on the web that they got from a BG check.

Don't tell me you wouldn't.

I am sitting here thinking this sorta thing ain't gonna get you alotta girls, even the skanky ones, in my view.

It's all good, Ronne, some guys show their hand without any effort necessary from us cranky wimmens! [:)]

Santoro -> RE: Am I jaded? (10/12/2009 1:04:37 PM)

This is my first comment on this site and most probably my last. Nevertheless, I would like to share a personal thinking with you blackpearl81. Locket did exactly what common sense dictates. One does not need NCIC access to determine the socioeconomic background of another, just a few keystrokes. In using those keystrokes Locket tells me, for her, logic prevails and therein the intrigue begins.
What other desirable traits and characteristics are hidden beneath that finely woven veil, few I think will ever come to know.

lusciouslips19 -> RE: Am I jaded? (10/12/2009 8:56:41 PM)

If a person is forthcoming i dont ask. But if someone say writes you and they have red flags going up. They are without a profile but still contacting me. Tell me all kind of doo doo that sounds like anm obvious con. You have one sentence on your profile, yur suspect. I am going to suggest meeting right away where we can both show each other a drivers license. I tell the people I already suspect, I need a background check. You dobt need to be in the CIa to get one. Many jobs require one. But if they are forthcomin and an open book I can usually tell . Like my old boyfriend who told me where he worked and gave me both his numbers after we met .

If you would go poof. Ta ta.

It's dickhead for "you caught me!"

Are you sure about that?

Gee.. and here I thought (not to mention read) that the defining difference between false light & defamation was this:

".....Like several of the other "Privacy" Torts, the Tort of "False Light" is intended primarily to protect the plaintiff's mental or emotional well-being."

"....if the information communited about the plaintiff is indeed truly false, then an action can be pursued on the basis of "Defamation,"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/False_light

http://netlaw.samford.edu/Martin/AdvancedTorts/falselight.htm

Next time, try looking up & actually understanding the differences between false light & defamation.

Thanks for playing though. Your consolation prize is down the hall.[:D]

Uh. Ok?

@ Hibiscus...again....

Showed my hand huh? That's cool. I mean.. We all know traffic tickets are the epitome of a criminal background, amirite? I mean.. fuck.... with my 4 traffic tickets, I should be the don of the Bonanno, Gambino, Columbo, Genovese & Lucchese crime families.

lusciouslips19 -> RE: Am I jaded? (10/13/2009 5:44:35 AM)

I would never be afraid to do a background check. Its not illegal. Unlike the person with a  criminal record. Would I be afraid of being sued? Hell no. First, I would not be bandying around the persons name, plus if anyone would have to be sued for false light it would be the department who posted wrong information.  Second, they would have to prove damages. If damages did occur they would have to have considerable bits of money. People have had much worse happen but did nothing because they couldnt afford to go through the expense of a suit.
False information in background checks is a rare occurance. As for the person who would go poof because of it, sounds like something to hide. I just had one run on me for work in a spa.  As far as a person with 4 traffic tickets, well not criminal, but if it was all within a short period of time(like 3 speeding tickets in 6 weeks like a former Dom of mine) it shows reckless, irresponsible behavior. That may be typical for a teenager but not a grown person I would want to be intimate with.

MsStarlett -> RE: Am I jaded? (10/13/2009 6:04:49 AM)

Background checks don't tell the whole story.

Never give a person on the internet your personal information... not even your real name, city of residence or home phone number because he'll probably be Googling up as much info as possible on YOU.

If a person is avoiding you or 'sneaking' to talk to you on the computer.  Ditch him.

If he makes the hairs stand up on the back of your neck when you meet him in a public place.  Ditch him.

We all have either HAD things that happened, or know some one else who had something happen that sounds much worse on legal documents than the full story will tell.  We also have all heard about the 18 year old boy who gets listed forever as a sex offender for having sex with his 17 year old girlfriend and her father filed statutory rape charges on him.

Heck, *I* was arrested for assault and battery on a child because I pulled a 7 year old girl off a dangerous piece of equipment and swatted her once on the butt for sassing me when I told her to get off it.  Luckily, mine was expunged when I explained to the court that I was only trying to keep the kid from doing sever damage to herself.  However, the fact that I DID put my hands on the child and admitted to doing so means I'm guilty.  If the mother had insisted on pressing the charges, I would have a permanent record of child abuse.

Police records don't tell everything.  Do you give people a chance to explain themselves when something pops up on a Background check?  Or do they just run for the hills because you were snooping?

Andalusite -> RE: Am I jaded? (10/13/2009 8:07:05 AM)

Lockit, if you have a bad gut feeling about someone, I don't think a background check is necessary - just dump him. Even if he were completely clean, not even a parking ticket, if someone makes you feel uncomfortable and distrustful, you should trust your own judgement. If you haven't even met in person yet, why bother going to those lengths? After all, you might not have any chemistry, or conversation might not flow as well in person, or whatever.

Note that you have outted yourself on this issue and according to you, that's pretty lowlife. Does wiki have any information on sueing yourself?

got a link to that?

I guess sarcasm is lost on some.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Am I jaded? (10/13/2009 10:23:03 AM)

Honestly, BlackPearl, you have NO idea of my personal educational background, give it up with the sniping, it only makes you look bad.

I have never done a  background check on anyone in a legal sense, as regards my PERSONAL life.  If someone interests me, and says that he or she knows Mr X and is great friends with Ms Y, yeah, I am going to go check on them with those people.  That sort of thing has saved me from wasted time more than once.   I have friends who insist on seeing a person's driver's license before going on a play date!  To me, that is purely bonkers, but then, I am not the one getting tied up...

Do whatever makes you feel safe.  In the meantime, we women are going to do whatever it takes to make ourselves feel safe.

Sniping? Hmmm... Pointing out the difference between false light & defamation is "sniping"?

Ok. Fine. Guilty as charged then.

That's all well and good - you and I both know that talking to one of your friends about someone you're interested in is not the same as running to a website, plugging in someones first & last name, and seeing what history pops up. One can happen in passing. The other is deliberately done.

mnottertail -> RE: Am I jaded? (10/13/2009 10:41:29 AM)

nothing said or recounted here in this thread would qualify as false light or defamation.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Am I jaded? (10/13/2009 10:42:10 AM)

As I said, we have to do what it takes to feel safe.   If I even *think* that I have to run a background check on someone, well, that is not someone I need to deal with at all!   If I were to decide to marry someone, at my age there would more than likely be a prenup involved, so hey!  Both sides can have a field day.  The FBI has my fingerprints on file anyway.  [:)]

I have nothing to hide.  There are things that I would rather not have posted on page one of the newspaper, but I have nothing to hide.  I would like to think that a potential partner would feel the same way.

LaTigresse -> RE: Am I jaded? (10/13/2009 11:05:58 AM)

I figure since I was able to pass inspection for double secret triple ott clearance for the feds........I'm not too much of a criminalish type. [:D]

(and yessssssssss I know the above doesn't really exist......it just sounds wayyyyyy  more exciting than the real deal was )
