Servant the NFL, in this case, is the 31 other team owners....Care to explain to me how it is in their best interests to allow into their group a man who just might inspire such a boycott.
Does that sound like good business to you?Hell given the response to his inclusion in this group...its not even good business for Rush and/or his partners.

"If a conservative doesn't like a commentator he'll simply change the channel."
"If a liberal doesn't like a comentator he'll demand that he be shut down."

You mean like Bill Maher?

Who's Bill Maher?
No, I mean like the guy in the cowboy hat about 2 years ago.

So explain to me the difference between what happened to Maher and what happened to Imus.

One liberal, losing his show because of a conservative outcry over his comments.

One conservative, who took a lot of flack from liberals over his comments, but retained his job.

It would seem to argue against your point.

Rule, I don't know this "Bill Maher" guy. Fox? CNN?
That's it, Don Imus! He was kicked off the air by screaming liberals for "offending" people.
Last time I checked it's not against the law to "offend" someone.

You know, in the last five to seven years I might have heard Limbaugh maybe three or four times and that's just because I was flipping the dial around due to boredom.
I'd listen to him for 15 to 20 minutes and he was *boring*, the same thing over and over!
"Ditto" this, ditto that, I just couldn't listen because it was so boring.
How do you liberals in here know so much about the guy if you don't listen to him?

Iwould challenge anyone out there to find one instance where Rush acted in a racist manner.

But, Serv, racism is in the eye of the beholder.  Rush Limbaugh breathing in the morning is a racist act to those who wake up looking to be offended.  He's an incredibly wealthy, self-made, white guy.

Saying that the man who assassinated Martin Luther King deserves a Congressional Medal of Honor would probably be racist in the eyes of quite a few beholders, Heretic. Not yours, though?

Let the owners decide then. Leave the loonie left out of it. I don't tell you how to spend your money.

mnottertail -> RE: Sharpton has asked the NFL to nix Limbaugh's purchase of the Rams (10/12/2009 2:09:03 PM)

well, your comments on this thread were longer than sharptons, so the rabid right has had equal time.

When did you suddenly become a socialist?

Who are you calling "the loonie  left"...if by that you are referring to any who have objected to this proposed purchase......thats an awfully  big tent and it includes a large segment of the present NFL players...including the NFLPA.

Maher gained fame as the host of Politically Incorrect, which aired on the Comedy Central television network and later ABC. He is currently the host of Real Time with Bill Maher on HBO.

ABC decided not to renew Maher's contract for Politically Incorrect in 2002 after he made a controversial on-air remark on September 17, 2001, in which he agreed with guest conservative political commentator Dinesh D'Souza that the 9/11 terrorists were not cowards.

He then went on to say, "We have been the cowards lobbing cruise missiles from 2,000 miles away. That's cowardly. Staying in the airplane when it hits the building, say what you want about it, it's not cowardly."

Maher later clarified that his comment was not anti-military in any way whatsoever, mentioning his longstanding support for the American military.

...Ari Fleischer, who was the White House Press Secretary at the time, responded to a reporter's question about Maher's comments by saying: "...they're reminders to all Americans that they need to watch what they say, watch what they do. This is not a time for remarks like that..

I listen to him because I want to know first-hand what nonsense is being put out there.

Plus, I guess I like getting pissed off.  [:D]

slvemike4u -> RE: Sharpton has asked the NFL to nix Limbaugh's purchase of the Rams (10/12/2009 2:24:55 PM)

Well Popeye you did referrence something about it not being against the law...which would sort of indicate some sort of legal violation....

popeye1250 -> RE: Sharpton has asked the NFL to nix Limbaugh's purchase of the Rams (10/12/2009 2:27:33 PM)

Rule, that's why I don't know who he is, I don't have HBO.
I watch the History Channel and that type of shows mostly.

Lucylastic -> RE: Sharpton has asked the NFL to nix Limbaugh's purchase of the Rams (10/12/2009 2:29:06 PM)

Is funny, I heard about it being the players who were threatening to boycott if he was allowed to buy the rams, that there were six people thinking about buying it together, the team was worth 929 million, but the team players were at that time the only ones saying  rush is a racist and they wont play under his ownership.
I cant say I blame em. But I guess we shall see

Like the link said he was on ABC when it happened.

You really don't remember every conservative in the country calling for him to be burned at the stake?

Considering St. Louis has a majority black population it would be interesting to see how it affects attendance if Rush becomes an owner.

mnottertail -> RE: Sharpton has asked the NFL to nix Limbaugh's purchase of the Rams (10/12/2009 2:41:18 PM)

I am sure somebody is calculating that very thing, people with money in the game. And I am quite sure that Sharpton will never own a team either for like reason.

LOL.

Mike, nope. I simply said it's not against the law to "offend" people.
Taking t.v. shows off the air aren't "law enforcement actions."

Notsweet -> RE: Sharpton has asked the NFL to nix Limbaugh's purchase of the Rams (10/12/2009 2:46:03 PM)

All these people saying Rush is a racist, Rush said this, Rush said that don't listen to him. I do. He's not.

Bill Maher makes a living by saying outrageous things, and getting people worked up. He's not funny, never was. At least Rush is funny.

But the thing that truly disgusts me is calling people "racist," simply because it's the new "n-word." If a liberal doesn't like someone, they scream "Racist." Plain and simple, I see it every day. It makes me sick--seeing as how I'm old enough to have seen what real racism is. How about having a daily conversation with a couple of 70 year old African American women every single day, listening to THEIR stories of how things used to be, then come back and tell me about racism. If you're under 50, you don't know what the fuck you're talking about.

mnottertail -> RE: Sharpton has asked the NFL to nix Limbaugh's purchase of the Rams (10/12/2009 2:48:16 PM)

Well, we'll just take your word for it then, shall we?

Let's move on, then.

Rule, sorry no.
I don't watch "Network" t.v. with the exception of Jay Leno once in a while or local news.

P.S. I do listen to Howie Carr on wrko 680-AM Boston but he's mostly about local politics
like pols getting arrested for DUI's but he does do national stuff too like illegal aliens, etc so I'm not totally misinformed!
