It sounds like his field is endocrinology or something of the sort rather than nutrition, in any case.
As everybody else has already said, though: if he's regularly having enough lows to need to load up on glucose tablets, then he either needs to be eating more carbs or taking less insulin. Myself, I'd suspect the former: the Atkins diet works brilliantly for controlling type 2 diabetes, but it isn't as good as dealing with type 1, for which eating slow burning carbs at mealtimes is recommended. Letting him digest that is the reason he's taking insulin in the first place, after all.
I appreciate LadyN's feeling that her prerogatives as the bloke's dominant are being usurped by health issues, and that she doesn't want to be feeding him stuff that she doesn't eat herself and that her other sub is banned, but in this case it might be necessary. Perhaps some more fruit before or after meals would help? There's a lot of fruit with plenty of carbs in it, though that does tend to be sugar rather than the more complex stuff. At least he'll be getting some more fibre and water than he gets from the glucose tablets, tablets.
