ORIGINAL: Twoshoes You know, you could always find a progressive school if you're really worried about "indoctrination". You can also argue that you need a certain amount of indoctrination to create a resistance to it. Personality has a lot to do with how likely you are to challenge doctrines. I've spent two and half years in a Catholic highschool when my parents last moved. It didn't make me any less likely to question everything (including in a phenomenological sense). Anyway, school is a social experience, where you learn how to charm people, get your way and sweet talk girls. Don't be a protective control freak... Your kids don't need to be exactly as you envision for them to live well. I admit that I am orders of magnitude ahead of this poster's thinking with regard to my child's education and development. I admit that there is nothing in my post that talked about the fact that I was considering homeschooling my child, nor yet in any of my posts to my knowledge, that in any way suggests that I am a "control freak". I admit that I am not the other mother on this thread who was talking about homeschooling, but I don't think she's a control freak either. I admit that I am also willing to bet that she knows her child and the child's needs better than the above poster does. I admit that I am a mother/stepmother to six children. Five of them are at least 17 years of age, having been seen through public school the whole time. I admit that at least three of these children were shortchanged by the system despite all interventive efforts to the contrary on my part. I admit, therefore, that I know more about who I am, who my children are, what their highly individual needs are, and how to help my children get them met, than the above poster does. I admit that said poster may think he knows what he's talking about, but in this case, does not, and should kindly mind his own business and refrain from passing such undue judgements in future. Thank you, that is all. EDITED, because of maternal puffed-up snark. and bad spelling, because I type too fast when I am upset, and I should remember that as with the P&R forum, opposing viewpoints are usually not worth it. Carry on..
