I admit I am sad. My co-worker and her husband are breaking up, so she is moving back to NM tomorrow.

I admit that I do not yet know if this will cause me to have to cancel my trip to the beach.

Normally I pay between $300 and $400 a year for hay. Yesterday I sold $1200.00 of jewelry to buy hay as my horses have been on full rations for nearly a month now. The pasture is utterly bare. Dirt. The grass is no longer dormant but dead. Will have to be reseeded. In the meantime, I have to FIND hay to buy. Then hope and pray I have enough money to buy it. Not many around here have that luxury. But still, finding the hay is going to be a challenge. I may have to travel for it.

Then we get to the grain part of their diet.........also going to be a challenge. As I said, they are now on full rations as though it was January. Normally they are out on pasture this time of year. I am estimating I will be feeding as I am now, at least until May. Then, who knows what kind of shape the pasture will be in. Or how much it will cost to reseed this fall.

I am one of the lucky ones. I am not forced to sell my babies for pennies to the slaughter buyers as many will.

Hibbie, as of right now, it seems that I should make it. This will, of course, depend on whether or not the new chick can handle working my shift. I admit I am not especially optimistic, but T (the man I love at work) says he'll talk her through if need be. We'll see.

(the new chick seems to have serious problems with closing out her cashier: last night she told me that the wad of cahs in the drawer was an overage.... however, when I counted in, the drawer was 60.00 SHORT. WHen I recounted, using that wad of cash, the drawer was $10. over. This is not the first time there have been issues with her and her drops/ counts)

Inorite???? and we use a spreadhseet for it... she doesn't even have to ADD the stuff, just count the bills and coins! !

ETA: and not count any credit card sharges into her drop....

Based on what I deal with around here, is it a case of the company getting what it pays for, or a case of the company hired an idiot that is getting paid more than she is worth?

Just cuz, here, I can tell when a place pays like shit, they have shit people working. No one with a brain would work for the wages offered.........aka Walmart.

she has personality (mostly) and most of the guests like her ( a plus). But if this crap keeps up, where anyone that works after her is going to have to reconcile the 'bank'.... Not so much a plus.

Thank you Greedy. As much as it is stressful for me........the big picture is that, as I said, I am one of the lucky ones. I can find the resources to do what I need to. Oh sure, my jewelry collection has dwindled and may have to even more. But the responsiblity to the living creatures, in my care, is more important. I can't back out just because it's difficult or painful in some way.

I am already seeing, on my drive, horses that are dramatically losing weight, suffering. Maj and Mo won't.

I admit I know where La T is coming from,I just had 2 horses die,I am assuming it is from eating something poisonous.I never knew johnson grass produced cyanide during drought conditions and they had johnson grass growing across the fence.

I admit that due to councillors voting to cut funding further I'm now not even going to be reimbursed for my expenses on the riot recovery work I've done in the community let alone receive the promised funding.
