ORIGINAL: CynthiaWVirginia I admit that kittens are being born tonight. The mamma kitty I took from bo's yard ................ I admit I'm curious how the kitties are doing. I admit I narrowly escaped collecting a kitty myself today. Congrats on your narrow escape. Mamma kitty is now named Serena (after that cartoon Sailor Moon, the girl who was forced to step into an adult role way before her time. Mamma kitty became a mother during her very first heat cycle as a gawky tween and had been cranking kittens out ever since). Serena had five babies and they are all doing well. Limiting her to a bedroom, giving her kitten chow, lots of water, 1-2 cans of catfood per day, some cooked meat (diced chicken breast, sliced pork roast, steamed cod fish, some chicken liver) to snack on once or twice per day, and a kitty vitamin pill (it has brewer's yeast to help bring in her milk stronger, a problem she's had in the past) is helping her to recover nicely. We go into the room to love her up two or three times per day, and when my son goes up to his room to go to sleep, she gets to cuddle up with him in his bed. She's a very loving animal and I cannot wait until the time comes when I can have her fixed. If I cannot find her a good home I'll have to keep her. Oh, she has transitioned just fine from being a strictly outdoor cat and is using the litter box every time. The babies are nice and plump and show no signs of dehydration. Looks like I won't be needing to use those kitten bottles and kitten formula to supplement their momma's milk. I won't be needing to use the dehydrated goat's milk either, yay. I thought there was a sixth kitten up there but it was just her organs drifting back down forming a kitten sized firm lump; I'm so glad I was faked out, five is plenty enough to find homes for. When I went to pick up my mom, she had forgotten to bring her camera. After I go to bo's and return home, I'll borrow her camera (it has a chip thingy) and will upload pix. One of the women at the vet's office wants to post a pic on their board now, letting people know that these babies will be available in about eight weeks for adoption. Serena is a Burmese mix with tortoiseshell coloring. Two of her new babies are like her, one is all black, one is pure orange tabby, and another one is all white and will probably end up being a red point like it's two older brothers. These brothers...their tails are starting to color up with orange tabby tiger stripes, lol, too cute, I've never seen anything like it. Of her previous batch, two of her kittens had medium length fur and one had long fur. The girl kitten my mother adopted had her spaying done yesterday and mom said that the vet was so good...that the surgical incision was only as long as a human bellybutton. We were used to seeing three inch cuttings with fugly stitches, not this lovely one inch work with surgical glue. (One down, two brothers left to go, lol, they're getting neutered early next month, after I get paid.) ****now to stop derailing this thread, lol**** I admit that yesterday was awful. I admit that the heatwave broke finally, if only for a day, and it was wonderful to feel cool air on my skin instead of feeling like I've been tossed into a brick oven. I admit that this would be a good day for spring cleaning but...I'm going to kick back and relax instead. (And play Pokemon Rumble Blast on my Nintendo 3DS until my fingers spaz up and go numb.)
