My late wife had cats, and we (the cats and I) had a tolerance agreement, meaning we tolerated each other's presence. Every time I came up with a solution to keep the cats away from my hobby work table or finished wooden model boats, the sneaky bastards found a way around the latest deterrent, after a period where the seemed to be no longer interested in whatever they were trying to destroy. The only permanent solution I found was using shelf paper turned upside down so the contact cement was face up. The cats would land on it, it would stick to paws, and cats do NOT like stuff stuck to their paws. After about a month, all I had to do was lay out strips of plain white paper and they would stay away and not chance it.

I admit that I am mentally and physically worn out. Had to admit Mom to the hospital for the flu bug, dehydration and erratic heartbeat. Got the heartbeat to calm down after getting magnesium and potassium into her system and she was able to eat. She is on fluids now and I alerted the main family members that she wanted me to contact. Since this is not the first time she has been hospitalized for the heartbeat, 4 cardiologists were consulted to figure out a treatment plan. Usually my baby brother would handle the medical issues, but the staff turned to me since I am with her 24/7 and knew more about her health than he did. Hopefully her main cardiologist will come in the morning and okay everything where she can come home and actually rest. I admit that Mom can see now. She had cataract surgeries on the 8th and 14th and is virtually 20/20 but needs reading glasses when she does read books and the paper. Sees the TV just fine and can read the small print 16 feet from her chair. No more blindness!

Sorry to hear about your mom. Being dehydrated does all kinds of not so nice things to older people. Gary starts to sleep all the time. That means I can't get liquids into him as he keeps falling asleep. Basically I have to nag him constantly. As soon as he gets enough liquids he starts to realize what's happening and begins to drink fluids. With your mom having the flu it's probably best that she's in the hospital. Hope the docs can figure out what to do about her heart. Took a long time for the docs to finally decide on something that worked with Gary.

She is doing better today. Has 5 or 6 doctors trying to figure her out (hell, I know whats wrong if you just freaking ask me). She is able to eat and keep that down (YAY!). They put her on Warfarin and that causes one of the problems which landed her in the hospital in the first place (can I knock some heads around? I am with Mom 24/7, not 15 minutes a day experimenting on her). I am mainly isolated here on the farm, wanting to go see her but I can't drive and my brother and his family have a life to live (soccer and tae won do for the kids). I am still exhausted, having to clean the house and disinfect the bathroom with a bad knee but hey, the toilet is sprinkling now...LOL! So I am going to take my night pills and probably listen to Pandora before heading to bed.

I admit a drama-queen friend is in a tizzy because his boyfriend locked the keys in the car. I admit I understand how irksome something like that can be, but I'm having trouble mustering patience for his boundless self-pity. I admit I'm fighting the temptation to text "You know, an oncology patient may not be the best source of sympathy for your lament that your life sucks."

Shahar, give my regards and best wishes to your mother. DC, I tend to agree with you, an oncology patient is not the one to get sympathy from because somebody locked their keys in their car, and decided that fact made their life not worth living. Which leads me to my next question, how are YOU doing right now?

Hang in there, Shahar. Have done the thing with wrong drugs before with Gary. You just have to keep telling the doctors that what they want to do will not work. The doctors just assumed that his hands were shaky and he could not feed himself. I had to explain over and over that he was perfectly capable of feeding himself until they gave him that drug. Finally, I had to just tell the nurses that he was refusing the drug (which you can do). In a couple days the shakes stopped and the doctors finally started to see the light. You just have to do the best you can to work with their system. They really do believe that we're stupid and can't possibly know that our loved one is not as messed up as they appear to be on some drugs. I love that we're in Montana and no longer snowbirds going to Phoenix for the winter. The doctors in this little town actually know each other, talk to one another about a patient, and work together.

Well, they finally got the flu bug under control, took her off of Warfarin and unto Elquiss. Took the monitor off and she is responding a lot better. She should be home tomorrow and probably whap me for putting her in there when my brother has the POA on her (I apologized to him for the takeover, he claims he did not know she had him as medical POA but I was there when she signed the paperwork with the attorney). Jeff, like Hill says, hide the rulers...not a Catholic gal but I had my share of torturers...I mean teachers who were not afraid to use them (and paddles). I'll tell her that y'all are giving her good wishes...just not that they are from the kinkiest folks around.

Insurance wouldn't pay for Eloquis for The Man. He's on warfarin, with weekly blood tests. They go back and forth tinkering with dosages every week. It's gotten to the point that he can tell what the clotting number is by how fast he heals after getting cut. If it stops bleeding quickly, he now they'll change the dosage next week.

Both Mom and I are on Medicare so it depends on how much it is. She is also AARP and Walgreens gives discounts on certain drugs (the pharmacy put me on her AARP card as well and now I get a few drugs free).
