I admit I am intrigue at a recent rumor about a firearms company...
I admit I want one if it is true
The rumor is that the company that makes the desert eagle is planning an .460 XVR magnum automatic

I have this warped thought of some 110 pound girl buying one for self protection.....
If she is wearing roller skates, firing it does not necessarily mean she has to actually hit anyone, the recoil should get her up to mach 1......

Considering your recent lack of posts, I am seriously considering putting together a raiding party of 200 Chirachua warriors, a few hundred Cherokee (hey they fucked up enough brits fighting alongside us colonials) and a few Comanches to raid into Canuck country and find out why you have been avoiding us.

It would be much easier if my MK VIII panzers would arrive from Krupp Heavy Industries out of Altair, I mean five regiments of 200 ton fusion powered tanks would make things a bit less troublesome....

That blasted regulation about exporting high tech weapon systems on primitive non member worlds is a real pain in the ass....

lifes a bitch Jeff:)
I have to admit, the first time, I read your post, I read chihuahua, my apologies to the Chiricahua warriors...
tanks will trash the highways...unless you were to fly em in...
I ll leave a candle in the window:)

The tanks in question are Ground effect vehicles, from the book series Hammer's Slammers.

The author, David Drake, was assigned to the 11th Armored Cav Regiment, the illustrious Black Horse, during the Vietnam conflict, and began writing the short stories as a cathartic way of dealing with his experiences.

But in one of his essays, he sums up a combat soldier's outlook, in a way that few famous generals ever could, especially about Vietnam.

quote:

But you know, I’m still proud of my unit and the men I served with. They weren’t exactly my brothers, but they were the folks who were alone with me. Given the remarkably high percentage of those eligible who’ve joined the association of war-service Blackhorse veterans, my feelings are normal for the 11th Cav. Nobody who missed the Vietnam War should regret the fact. It was a waste of blood and time and treasure. It did no good of which I’m aware, and did a great deal of evil of which I’m far too aware. But having said that . . .

I rode with the Blackhorse.

That's interesting about David Drake. I've not read anything by him apart from the SF/Horror crossover novel he wrote with Karl Edward Wagner (or finished and polished at the point where Wagner was so mean-drunk that he'd effectively destroyed his career as a writer and probably couldn't have got an editor to look at it by himself). That quotation definitely makes him sound a lot less obnoxious than the neo-nazi shit some commentators in the SF community (most notably Charles Platt and Harlan Ellison) have painted him as: has he mellowed a bit since the '80s or something?

If he was writing about GEV mega tanks, he might even be taking some material from boardgames rather than Keith Laumer...

He has not mellowed since the 80's, the quote I used was from an essay he wrote in 85 as the end for the first collection of short stories dealing with the slammers.

As far as neo-Nazi, I would paint him as being more against the GOP and Dems than anything else.

David Drake had some major issues about the way that Vietnam was handled at the political level, particularly with the restrictions placed on commanders in the field by Washington shit for brains politicians.

To paint a man who served with and admired troopers of different races and religions as a Neo Nazi is about as accurate as describing Mel Gibson as an even tempered social drinker with pro feminist ideals.

However, in one interview, which may be the basis for their opinion, he did state that he actually thought the political system as described by Heinlein in 'Starship Troopers' was probably the only form of limited democratic government that would make sense.

In other words, to be eligible to run for office, one would have to have served at least one four year term in the military and be honorably discharged. Although his reasoning was more along the lines that at least then, the men and women in Congress would be in less of a hurry to commit troops to solve problems.

I tend to agree, men and women who have been on the sharp end, who have to live with the experiences would not be as quick to send troops into combat hamstrung with rules of engagement that limits what and how they can respond to threats.

I admit I'm currently getting a parcel ready to USA and hope it will get there...jeeesh there is a lot of stuff we can't post to you over there🤔

I admit I had an awesome sewing course last weekend, gosh this lady rocks💪💪💪

I admit it is a 5 day course to sew a Dirndl (bavarian costume) for oneself but I am sewing it for UM...

I admit I hope it will fit here in the end...in 4.5 years time😂😂😂

I admit on Sunday I was about to leave two hours earlier as I was soooo done with sewing by then (Saturday and Sunday each day from 9.30am - 4pm) but she had a great attitude to encourage me to stay...because of which I got almost finished with it😊😊😊 and was proud as a bee😍😍😍

I admit this Saturday it will get finished, leaving me two days on her course to complete other desired projects with her help 😊😊😊

I admit the 8 other women will need their 5 days for it cause they do it personalized for them so they needed more time in choosing the right size etc...

I admit tomorrow we drive to my parents in law and I'm looking forward to it😊

Platt and Ellison both had issues with him wearing an SS belt to a convention and describing the SS as exemplars of military virtues, apparently. There was a lengthy rant about this in one of Platt's Interzone columns.

Barring the atrocities in which the SS were involved in, he was referring to the other noted aspects of the SS units, discipline, etc.

However, he admitted that with all that was to be admired about the SS, their devotion to and loyalty to just one man, Adolf Hitler, was their greatest weakness and flaw.

Drake has spoken in various essays on some of the greatest military units in history, from the legions of Rome to the Immortals of Persia. Each in its own right was the epitome of military virtues, while at the same time, presented some of the great problems with units of such devotion. In the case of the legions, the devotion was not so much to Rome, but the General who commanded them, hence the reason why Caesar's legion followed him into Rome itself, despite the fact that to do so was both illegal and for the time, against regulations (for lack of a better term.)

Prior to ordering his Immortals to attack the Spartans for the second time at Thermopylae, Xerxes ordered them to kill their wives and camp followers who had accompanied them on the march, since he decided that the Immortals had failed because the night before the battle they had been fucking around.

And the Immortals followed the order to the letter.
