I admit that I love Girly's post. *mama swoons* I admit that most schools DO have a zero tolerance policy with bullying. I admit that if the tormented child does not self-advocate and takes matters into his or her own hands (hits back, etc.), without first telling an adult in charge, that kid (original "victim") can get suspended from school. I admit that explaining this concept to Thing 1 was damn near impossible over the course of a few years. I admit that he was suspended from school a few times because he defended himself physically without first telling an adult that he was being hassled. I admit that assault charges are not uncommon in elementary school and secondary schools, where a kid has been told by their parents to "stick up for yourself... if you get hit, then hit them back" rather than go to an adult and report it. I admit that I saw lots of cases like this in juvenile court a few years ago. I admit that since Thing 1 is a brown belt now, he doesn't feel the need to retaliate if someone tries something stupid. He just tells them to back down and walks away because he has nothing to prove. (He really could put a hurtin' on someone if necessary.)
