I admit that I felt like a horrible mommy this morning when I decided that I was tired of taking care of the waist-length hair of my 6 yr old. The brushing, the detangling, the tears, the screaming, the blowdrying, the daily braiding... the fact that if I go out of town no one else seems to know how to wash it and dry it and put in a simple braid. When I come back she is definitely the worse for wear. So today I said ENOUGH! Kiddo was not a happy camper. There was more tears, screaming, etc. I tried to show her the website for Locks of Love, and told her that we would send her cut-off braid to them so they could make a wig for a sick little girl who had no hair. She was having NOTHING to do with it. By the time we got to the salon this afternoon she had moved from vocal opposition to merely sullen. I started looking at pictures of short hairstyles, and she spied one she liked. She marched up to the stylist and said, "I want to look like this!" By the time we left she was happily showing her short hairdo to anyone who would look. We even stopped by my mom's place on the way home so she could show her. And she is very concerned that I remember to send the hair in to Locks of Love. Yes ma'am! Cali
