I do not mean that those with genetic conditions should not be allowed to raise children, merely to not have their own.  Personally, I want no children of my own blood, having seen the genetic conditions my family on both sides are prone to.
By those not mentally stable, those who I believe should not be able to raise children at all, I mean those decided by their psychiatrists, and worse, those that have been caught hurting children previously.  By our laws, even those that have abused children can still produce more, and often the child protection services must catch them hurting the new children before taking them... except in very extreme cases.
I do not mean to start this debate, here, on this thread.
I can have this debate, however, if you'd like... not to be rude, it's just a subject I'm very much interested in.

I admit that I am glad you defined your parameters as those that have hurt children or been deemed by their psychiatrists as not stable enough to have children, I wasn't sure what you meant. Thanks for answering :)

No you weren't rude, I just wanted clarification, and you weren't obligated to give it to me, so thanks for the response!

I admit I don't want a debate, just a discussion and a civil one, so thanks!

Thorny, if you head into Charleston, do yourself a favor and stop in at Ellen's Homemade Ice Cream on Capitol St. While I've yet to sample their wonders (bloody dairy allergy), my family living in the area can't stop singing their praises.

Aynne,

I am speaking from personal experience. Individuals that are mentally unstable, unable to care for their children emotionally and physically should pass on the gift of parenthood.

I'd get into it further but I don't wanna.

I admit I was venting about a particular situation going on in my life.

I admit growing up with physical and emotional abuse allows me to speak from experience.

I admit if an adult can't care for their child why the fuck have children? just sayin.

I admit all that I say is MY opinion.

I admit I'm not speaking for anyone else.... just wittle ol' me

I admit that I didn't mean that girly, I was referring to the comment in general, I am sure that you speak from experience, and I get what you were saying, I was referring to some things that may be discerned as "mentallly unstable" such as ADD, or OCD, and I have seen people with those diagnoses have great children and be great parents. Sorry if I was offensive.

I admit that I TOTALLY DISAGREE. As a woman, a mother with both physical and mental disabilities who are YOU to tell me I(or anyone with my disorders) should have had children? What is next saying those with heart conditions or diabetes or perhaps even those with homosexual in their family should not have children? After all those things are genetic as well.

I admit there are some people who should NOT have children. My own parents included.

I admit my father is currently serving a 20 yr sentence for raping my 7 yr old cousin.

I admit he should NEVER be allowed near another child.

I admit I believe in chemical castration for pediphiles.

I admit although I struggle some days as a mother I have 2 beautiful and well grounded and adjusted children.

I admit due to my disorders my children have probably struggled more than they would have if I wasn't sick but I did my damnest to provide for them and give them everything my parents never gave me.

I admit I ask myself every day if my kids would be better off without me.

Uggg.. I admit I need to walk away form this conversation b/c it is way to personal for me

I admit sweet Aynne was not offensive.

In my opinion I don't consider ADD or OCD as mentally unstable, yes it is a disability which many people have found treatment to live wonderful lives.

I was speaking of a family member who does take meds and STILL ain't right, if ya get my drift.

I admit we can't pick our family so that's why I'm extra picky on picking my friends.

I admit that it must be difficult going through life assuming people cannot change.

I admit that the law recognizes that people can change.

I admit that I sure don't want to live in a world where css can pull kids randomly without evidence.

I admit that I have seen MANY kids MORE abused by the system than their parents.

I admit that it's easy to make these harsh judgmental statements, but the reality is there are no perfect people in the world and idealism is not practical or remotely helpful to those families that need reality.

I admit that "harm" is much different than severe abuse, sexual assault or abandonment.

I admit that the law DOES in fact recognize that difference in my state.

I admit that what I am glad I can see the entire world and not just react out of fear or personal bias.

I admit meeting Jeff, laurell, Aynne, and I guess Domi would be fun.

I admit I have a feeling there would be a lot of laughter during that meet.

I admit I said "meet" but not as in meat, cock, or shaft.

I admit I find this sad. I might be wrong, but reading between the lines I see a lot of pain.

I do too holly. You and I come from different perspectives, you heal, I defend. Having pain doesn't equate to making paying it forward ok and when looking at others situations we really do have to see THEM not impose our own history and pain on it.
