Yeah, I remember having a Come To Jesus Meeting with some Southern Comfort and porcelain myself many years ago....chip dip was involved....as was projectile vomiting....to this day can't even smell the stuff, lol.

I know the gay leather community predates my participation in the S&M Lifestyle. I never claimed to be a starter of the lifestyle. I mispoke though and should have said Ive been using things like safe words and having a friend to call to see if the submissive was safe since my first years in the lifestyle which was back in the 70's. its actually impossible to verify when everyone started using safe words and safe calls so I should never have opened my mouth. I shall not say anythig else in any room in collarmechat. I herebye resign fromn this organization. I shant embarass you all any more. there, you happy?

Actually, Rapier has had me in stitches, but he made me laugh at you  .

The English really are far superior to everybody when it comes to insults; and Rapier's a class A genius. You should be honoured he took the time and effort to dedicate so much of his talent to your case :-) .

Kitten, I too feel exactly the same way, Rapier is just superb. I nearly had a non consensual watersport moment earlier.
However I am of course a little biased but what the hell.

Happy? We're going to have a party, raise a monument and declare a national holiday! We will celebrate this day every year by not talking about things we know nothing to commemorate your silence and read cerebral works to carry on the tradition of raising the aggregate IQ your withdrawal  from our midst has accomplished.

(I may not be English but I can sling a comment when so vastly called for)

Someone said earlier that it was a way to teach others how to live. For me this is correct and in the case of women..it's there for that exact reason as well.

The bible teaches women to be submissive and in these days as far as I'm concerned..It's deeply needed.

I was the one who said it and it was based on the general concepts of good will and treating others as you would have them treat you that are contained in the Bible.

Not the patriarchy that you have embraced from an ancient culture.

All cultures come from so called ancient cultures. Don't snub something just because you don't follow it. Yes I do believe in a 50's style household..A bible style household where the Man is the head of that. Does that mean I think it fits everyone...Nope but it's perfect for me. That's all that counts now taint it?

At the end of the day, let's face it, none of us knows for sure how we got here. You might think you do, but can you prove it? Either way? I don't believe in god, or God or GOD or whatever floats your boat, or ark or inflateable tabernacle, but equally I have a hard time in believing that there have been so many coincidences and mutations to transmute us from a single celled amoeba into the complex biological machine that is currently sitting typing this. Obviously SOMETHING happened, because I'm here, typing this (or am I, perhaps not, perhaps Keanu was right after all) but I'm jiggered if I know how I got here

It's beyond me how so many intelligent people could miss something so obvious as this as far as I'm concerned.

All of it was a good post but let me highlight my favorite part..The part that I would hope would ring true to most of you..or at least should in my opinion.

This is where all the necessity for proof goes out the door for me..I have enough to make my decision.. It becomes a solely on-faith-decision for me from there. You don't believe? No problem. I do.

And don't assume you know for a second what that is without knowing me first hand.

I couldn't agree with you more.
And to top it all seeing some doddering old fool denying his flock the use of condoms and birthcontrol pills while they are dying like flies of AIDS and starvation makes me wanna sell the damned Vatican and spend the money on medicine and food. Nothing harms me more than standing on the steps of some beautiful multimillion dollar church in the Phillipines and see the squatter hut on the other side of the street.
Just like hearing that daft ass Bushman which finally left the White House standing and saying "We still advocate abstinence". He should be sentenced to serve minimum of a year seconded to some AIDS facility in deepest of Africa. I am sure seeing the real world as it is would drastically change his mind.

I love it when people quote the bible with one liners from it. Always makes me remember and old friend who actually shortly after the episode finished her university degree as a priest. In a discussion on the subject she hauled out a bible and made a statement. Then she did find a quote in that where her statement was verified. Then she found another quote which recanted the first qoute. Then she found another which opposed the second. She carried on like that, must have been at least 20 times. In the end she summed it up in saying, that if you know your bible well enough, there really is a passage for any situation which you can use to prove or disprove whatever you see fit. She did become parish priest in a large community here, where she has served for 30 years +. A remarkable woman.
Sadly enough it is the tecnic the power hungry moneygrabbing evangelists and other forms of religious zealots, with the catholic church as the supreme champion, has used for hundreds of years. The moment i hear someone putting someone else down using bible quotes or demanding they live according to the beliefs of them self, i do cathegorise them as belonging to that group. The bible should really be understood as a work of guidance, forgivenes and humblenes. Hardly caracteristic seen in many of today cristian denominations.

<polite applause>

My mum once said something like "I don't mind the product itself, it's the people who manage the franchises I don't get on with".

And for my own 2d worth, I'd suggest that the worst thing anyone did from a "Christian" PoV was to lump the old and new testaments together. The 2 volumes are, mostly, poles apart. They should have gone with the original working titles; "Bible" and "Bible 2.0"

A friend of mine overindulged in SC and found himself half-in and half-out of his car.  A breakup contributed to this sad event.  Since then, he can't even look at the bottle.

Yes it is.

As long as the realization is there that this is your choice, not something ordained by the guy in the sky that decrees it for all humanity.

and may I say that when I am personally attacked, called a liar and a fraud(as this guy did concerning my military service and historical facts) I respond in kind. It has nothing to do with my religion for if I literally interpeted the Bible I would have turned the other cheek and not said anything.

Southern Comfort is for wussies. Real men drink Yukon Jack - Canada's greatest contribution to humanity - second only to a hot blooded woman for keeping a man warm on cold winter nights.

By the way, did I ever tell you folks that I invented the nipple clamp while at a sorority party in 1968?

For the purposes of joing the main topic, I repost my thoughts on "Jesus Camp," that I'd written in an earlier thread:

"Jesus Camp" is a textbook example of how to indoctrinate and brainwash. Those nutcases make the Duggars look reasonable.

The words "child abuse" first occured to me when one girls said how guilty she felt when she danced "for the flesh," and not for Jesus. How sad, I thought, that an eleven year old girl should be made to feel guilty for simply enjoying dance for it's own sake.

I particularly feel sad for the dark haired girl (I forgot her name) who was a major focus of the film. She had such a spark, an inate intelligence - it's a shame to see that forced into such a narrow mode. Still, there's always the chance that she or some of the others may break free as they get older. One can only hope.

Jesus!

Southern Comfort?

I would not wish that on anyone, but at least you survived.

I adore SC ... and unless I drink more than a bottle it doesn't upset my system.

Oh, and a great summertime drink for when it's hot; pint glass of apple juice with ice, lob in a couple of shots of SC. Lovely

What a fantastic phrase!

Early morning, a cup of coffee, a ciggie, and a fit of the giggles. Ta.

Yes, it's definitely one of those drinks where, if you've called for Ralph, Huey and Bert on it, the smell definitely gets lodged in the old cerebellum for later reference.
