45 is what I would feel most comfortable with...but other things come into account like their physical abilities.  I'm a fairly active person and prefer someone who can match/catch up.  Not crazy about partners around my age...I'm 22 but often times people doubt me and think I'm much older.  Go figure.  Come to think of it..most days I do feel like i'm 37.
As far as my partner being close to my parents' age...definetely makes things a bit interesting but not a big deal.  If they have a daughter who is younger than me.....something to think about.

my Dom is 25 years older than me, and when i met him in person for the first time, he just had a big emotional and physical impact on me.

any reason i had for being concerned about the age difference, made me realize the following things:

you don't know how long anyone will live

you don't know how long any relationship will last

do you want the right age, the right kink, or the right man?

i wanted to find the right man, and he was the right man. everything else was secondary.

as for age.. well, some of his relatives live to over 100, mine tend to die it their 70's.. so really, we both may very well have the same lifespan left.

Older Doms can bring a wealth of experience and often greater stability to a relationship.

many submissives would do well to look to older Dom/Dommes.. i am sure glad i did.
and I don't like posting about very personal things, but i will say for the benefit of submissives considering opening up thier age ranges...

being with a man with 50+ years experience with a woman's body can be a very rewarding experience, and can offer something that a younger man's stud service simply can't match.

but, like every relationship, there are trade-offs. if you can't handle that there will be some things you can't have with a much older man, then you need to be honest with yourself.

i struggle with this myself, but when i look at what i do get, i am overwhelmed with love and gratitude for what i do have with him.

fortunately, when i was 40 i had a 'boy toy' who provided probably the best stud service possible in terms of equipment and performance, so i have had that experience, and know that however nice stud service is, the emotional connection and a 'sexy' frame of mind is far more powerful.

I just turned 53 myself. My age limit is 60 unless he is a young 60. I am a Big Woman and not many want a Big Woman. That's ok that is their preference.
For me i want somebody i will be with for a long time and have a relationship, wants, and needs that fit U/us like a glove so to speak.

Don't give up. It takes time as this one is learning. I am talking to somebody younger than i am. If anything happens i have no idea...I grew up with:

1.) Don't ask a boy on a date thats not ladylike
2.) He's much too young for you

That was the mentality of what i grew up with and i have to overcome that plus i am shy.

I'm 31, and I've always been drawn to older dominant women - I like the idea of being in experienced hands, and there's a certain authority that comes very naturally with age. I'm currently with a partner who's just a few years older, which suits me very nicely. If I were looking, however, there wouldn't be any firm "upper bound". In fact, one of my more unusual (and perhaps far-fetched) fantasies is to be dominated by a much older woman, maybe someone in her eighties or nineties. She might need an assistant to help with the mechanics of fastening cuffs and swinging paddles, but she'd be firmly in charge.

Who cares how old they are?  I've seen a 59 yo Dom who can swing a whip better than a 30 yo and had just as much or more stamina elsewhere ;)   I've met a 26 yo Dom with more wisdom and intelligence than most older types.  Age is only a number depending on the type of relationship you want.

I'm currently 41. When I was looking, I put a lower age limit of ~ 5-6 years and an  upper limit of about ten years older than myself. Why? I was looking for a LTR, and I couldn't see myself at 50 with a 60 year old. Then, when I'm 60 they'd be like.. 70 or more depending. Yeah, sure, they could be hit by a bus tommorow... but I think accidents happen with far less frequency than age. Hey, that happens to us all every day, doesn't it? And then what happens if they have a stroke at 70?  You'd sure get your fill of service then, and then some. I know, I know... playing the odds.... but I'd like to have them in my favor.

Now as for playing with someone just as friends, I'd have no age limit. As long as I know they know what they're doing. Interesting to me that no one has responded to Celestes? post. It's easier I think not to think so much about the future when you're 20. A lot harder to ignore when you're 40. Sure, some people will always break the mold. I think of a couple I know where the Master is in his 60's and the slave is in her early 20's. I also remember his medical crisis last year and what it could have done to her. All I'm saying is... go in with your eyes wide open after exploring all possible scenarios.

Thanks for listening to my rambling first post. I'm gonna go back to studying now.

Master is 26 years my senior.  He will be my Master until He dies (well, even after, but that's another story...lol).  So, whatever age He is is an "acceptable" age for Him to be my "dom."  He'll never be too old for me..............luci

My Master is 12 years my senior, He is 58. I think it is the person, not the age tag that counts

I have always prefered older men. Well, really, as I got older, I slowly relized that I simply always prefered men in thier mid fifties. Not a deal breaker, that just seems to be the age that turns my head on the street. That was true when I was a very wild 14 year old, and it is still true now at 40. At 14, the oldest man I dated was nearly 70. The age difference was somewhat noticable, but it didn't bother me, just everyone else. My Master is only 7 years older than I. When I took him home, my family commented on how young he was.  My last master, a great love of my life, was over 70, and that was a few years ago.
It is not about age. It is to some people, of course - but that is simular to me being a BBW. Many men don't care for that, and that's okay, as long as they are not rude - they get to have thier prefrences, and I am not it, and that is just okay.
Someone said, 'As long as the equiptment works'. I must disagree. My last half a dozen Masters (before Master, who does not share this problem) happened to be impotent. It is not something I asked about up front, it is not something I went looking for, but it is a moot point, to me, I just don't care. If they can control me, love me, talk to me and swing a whip, it's all good. I have never understood why it is that vanilla men who become impotent quit having sex. Lifestylers don't do that. Men in this lifestyle seem to know that not all sex is with your dick. Not to mention that an impotent guy can still very much enjoy a blowjob.
Good luck in your search.

i am 21...my Owner is 47.

i think that a Dom almost HAS to be older...to gain the control and experience it takes to actually control someone's life in the way that it requires.

Over the past several years, since my sub died, I have been trying to find someone new. We were together for about 10 years. During that 10 years, I happened to pass my 50th birthday, and am now 54.

If I see a profile with a specific age range desired for a Dom, and I don't fit, I generally don't contact her. I also tend to search for submissive women over the age of 40, which admittedly narrows the field. However, I am getting more and more responses from subs from age 45 to 60 that, at age 54, I am "too old" for them.

To be told by a sub whose profile says she is the same age as you or older that "I don't want to have anything to do with a Dom over 50" is, to say the least, hard on the ego, especially when it seems that is the sole reason for rejection.

Is this just something limited to the submissive women of eastern New England? Or should all Doms who are over 50 just stop looking?

Then if you're an older guy and very wealthy there doesn't seem to be any problem finding women of any age.

True popeye <smirks> but remember the downside - you can't hide what you are so you can't ever really know whether people like you for yourself or for your money. Makes life tough. <sighs>

I think I would be limiting myself to state an age that I would not consider as a Useful Talented Dominant.

Very interesting read, Being older now like was said before i can offer stability, patients, room for growth, and listening ear.  Yes having younger women around helps the ego i guess, but still being able to do activities that one still enjoy means alot.  Seeing the excitment, in their eyes, when they accomplish a goal bring joy to my soul.  Mainly as along as there good conversation, rapport among us I really don't look at the age. Plus I give respect to a woman young or old as a grown woman with independent ideas, something at times a younger woman desries but hasn't received yet at home or from her inner circle.

Hmmm a lot of the answers have to do with physical abilities..    At 40, I am am still in great shape, workout, and can run circles around many of the 25 year olds I see waddling around.

Good evening!
Daddy is 54 and I am 36. My hubby is 65 and I am 36. I have always loved older men since I was a teenager-yeah it gave my mom quite a few nightmares! ::laughs:: I find Daddy the best cause he is gentle, stubborn, controlled, and capable of real love. He knows what he wants and will not/would not settle for anything less. ahhh the luxuries of old age! Good luck!
Very truly,
Zechriel

Chronological age is merely a number.  It's the person that counts.  But personally, I prefer older than me.  Always have.
