Status: offline 		I've seen in posts here people sometimes refer to their kids as UMs.
I have no idea what it stands for and can't find anything that seems to fit and it has been bothering me. I'm simply curious :)

So, what does it stand for?

Status: offline 		I believe it used to be against the terms of service to ever mention children in any context here on the forums, and some people coined that term as a way of talking about their kids and whatnot without getting taken out and shot. It's no longer against the TOS to discuss them in a non-sexual context, but a lot of people still follow the old custom. That's all you're seeing.

Erm....I don't recall anything like that ever having been in ths tos. If it was no wonder it was removed. That could have had some legal problems if they tried to enforce it....

I don't specifically recall ever seeing it there myself, but there are so many people who seem to think it was I'm inclined to think it might have been. I know that on one other popular BDSM site, it was strictly prohibited to mention younguns in any context whatsoever, and I do wonder sometimes if some people just forgot which site is which.

I had one my earliest posts pulled because I had asked why those who had decided NOT to have children had made that decision...

Status: offline 		Boi and Panda got it. It used to be against the rules to mention children in any context on the boards, so some folks would use the acronym "UM", meaning "unmentionables".

I should save this so I don't have to look for the fucking thing all the time, but as of february 2008 this was ModeratorEleven's interpretation (and that for all intents and purposes is what you will live and die by out here) of the TOS concerning:

children, children, children, minors, minors, minors and all that.


It may or may not have eased up from there. But you are safe that far.
