I'll say one thing on this part. If you do find that typo or grammatical error in one of Lookie's post, you might want to mark your calendar. It's a very rare event indeed.

That's an excessively harsh stance to take with someone who is humbly asking for how he can improve himself. The lad has already begun making changes to his profile based on the feedback here.

I'm a professional technical writer and lord knows I get typos, transpositions, and an occasional grammar error myself ("teh" being my most common). I can see twisting the thumbscrews on 733t-speak or texting abbreviations and the like, but a minor typo or two?

And let me assure you that I have met plenty of men in suits who couldn't spell to save their own lives. The Big Guys have secretaries, why should they know how? Possibly the worst speller I ever encountered had both an M.D. and a Ph.D., and a classic Armani suit.

amy,

I think your profile looks a lot better now. I do think, though, that it'd help if you could inject a little personality. Say something interesting - in a friendly tone - about yourself (or indeed any other subject). It'll work like an icebreaker with someone reading your profile - and she'll have something on which to comment.

Actually, I don't give a damn really about his posts. To date, I've seen no other contribution from him other than correcting people's spelling. And there are ways of doing it politely, when someone asks, like I did in my OP.

Really, he's quite offensive!

You are right. Everyone has their strengths. English is my second language, which really is no excuse as I went to grad school in English and am publishing my first academic book, in English. But I'm smart enough to hire an editor!!

I also make a difference between conversational writing and more published writing. For example, I re-read what I write in these forums before posting, but for me, it's more important to get my thoughts out than to get them polished. That said, I do try to be succinct and to the point.

However, in texts that stick around, like an essay, a book, a proposal, a profile (be it professional or on here), I spend more time and effort on polishing.

Oh, one other suggestion, OP - change your username. It pigeonholes you as a man who defines himself by his crossdressing. Everyone's telling you to broaden your emphasis - make the name reflect that as well.
