I don't mess around on facebook. If you knew what you're exposing yourself to, you wouldn't either...

LaTigresse -> RE: Facebook group (11/29/2009 1:58:16 PM)

The ONLY people I communicate with on there is family and a few close friends.

ModeratorSeven -> RE: Facebook group (11/29/2009 1:58:52 PM)

If you want to have an intelligent conversation about issues of privacy, facebook and BDSM,  that's fine. But do not advertise.

Remember, don't feed the trolls.

Ditto. I have a profile there but rarely go there. Unfortunately there is no way to delete my profile or I wouldn't be there at all.

People have no idea what can be done as far as stealing your identity once they get a good pic of your face. Sooner or later there will be retinal scans, face structures and such for identification purposes. As well as prospective employers who will base things they find about on the internet as a way of deciding whether or not to hire you.

SubmissiveOinker -> RE: Facebook group (11/29/2009 2:29:34 PM)

I have a vanilla profile there, where so many people from my vanilla life have added me, when i started i joined one bdsm group but then I realized too many people who know me in my vanilla life are over there, so I shouldn't mix my bdsm and vanilla life up....to get too many questions.

subtlebutterfly -> RE: Facebook group (11/29/2009 2:44:06 PM)

Facebook is for your personal as well as professional life (bosses even look you up on facebook). You shouldn't mess it up with kink. I have friends & family on it..well and mostly nosy people that I have at some point gotten to know in my life (I've never understood the obsession of adding everybody you have ever met on there but owell)

I do admit I have one person on it who I got to know off here but 99.9% of our discussions are about our lives..not kink, I don't mind having her there at all but I'm very selective on who I add there, I'd not add whatever person off here to it..and I'm definitely not going to be adding people wearing pantyhose or latex there or otherwise seeking attention.

You think the picture of your face is safer here?

wisdomtogive -> RE: Facebook group (11/29/2009 3:18:16 PM)

Facebook has it pluses and minuses, especially when your family and friends can find you, hence bdsm and dating is not a part of my Facebook profile. Also since I have listed on my profile the radio show that I am cohost, i prefer to keep my private life where it belongs...with me, not through the gates of Facebook.

sunshinemiss -> RE: Facebook group (11/29/2009 3:22:02 PM)

I have people on facebook from here.  Everyone is very appropriate.  If they weren't, they wouldn't be my friends.

Well lets put it this way. If a prospective employer were perusing my profile on here, there would be nothing to worry about. lol.

LaTigresse -> RE: Facebook group (11/29/2009 5:51:31 PM)

You didn't answer the question as far as the bulk of your previous post. Exclude the part regarding employers, there should be equal concern.

How so? I'm not sure I get it. You are self-employed?

I think the theory is that if the boss is perusing profiles on this site, that they are also a member or looking for themselves and would therefore not have an issue with the kink, since it was a common interest.

Well that may be true, but my sister, who is a member of this site, found me, and when she was angry with me, proceeded to show a number of people in my family and attempt to turn them against me.  Sadly, they didn't figure out that there is a reason she would do that... like she was angry.

So, yeah, we may have a common interest, but I would never attempt to turn her children against her.  She doesn't have the same scruples.

It's foolish to presume that a shared interest equals a shared ethic.
