Hi all,

i had both nipples pierced about eleven days ago, and both rings are titanium (hypoallergenic is GOOOOOD:) ) i am just wondering exactly how long they are supposed to be sore for, before the healing is complete. i had my clit hood pierced about nine months ago, and i was doing all sorts of naughty things after only 48 hours - the swelling and pain had completely vanished by then...it was miraculous, but that's another tale :P

The piercer advised me that the crustiness around the holes is blood serum, and an indicator of healing, so that isn't worrying me anymore......Should it still be this painful, after 11 days, whenever i accidentally knock them with my hand, coat, or my purse, turn over onto my stomach in bed; or turn the rings to check them before i wipe them with the warm saline solution? The holes themselves appear to be bigger than the 14 gauge rings, however there is no evidence of pus, bleeding or any discoloration around the sites.

i know i possibly am coming across as a paranoid idiot, but i honestly have no idea what to expect with regard to pain, sensitivity or healing stages :)

Any advice would be appreciated,

One Im suprised as a woman your piercer didnt offer bars over rings, we tend to catch, on things like bras and such.

For me, it took about a month for the pain and extreme tenderness and sensitivity to dry out, It took nearly a year before they were fully healed no pain.

what I recommend is doing your best to not touch or play with them, get a padded bra if you can to make it a bit of cushin from getting things caught

If theres anything else feel free to cmail me, there are many people on the site who have had nipples done if you search there are many threads on the topic as well.

With all due respect Katey, I think you might be much better off asking your doctor rather than the piercer if anything that might be "oozing" or "crusting" is good or bad. Sure the piercer has seen a boat of of stuff but wouldn't you rather be safe than soory and get a doctor's opinion?

As far as the tenderness goes....how long have your nipples remained tender have a lot of rough play? Also keep in mind that your nipples get a lot more unintentional attention than your clit. Your bra, your blouse, friction from the sheets on the bed, etc. They all help keep them tender.

I would have thought that the paperwork you got when you had them pierced would have provided the "average" healing time. Mind you, I still say, give your doctor a call.

i saw my GP on Day 4 after the piercing, when i went for my smear, pills, etc.... She said they looked fine, just swelling from the trauma of having holes put through them :)

Nipples should not be gotten body fluids on them (saliva, semen, whatever) for at least 4-8 weeks. Soreness can continue, normally, for as long as a year and a half. Nipples are among the slower healing piercings.

Frankly, that you only waited 48 hours on your other piercing, I doubt you'll care about this info since that was a big no-no, too, but there it is.

Cool, that's good to know about nipples being that slow to heal :). These puppies have been bodily-fluid free zones since the day i got them pierced (believe me, i tend to be a bit neurotic when it comes to body fluids on any area that's only partially healed.

i was a little taken aback by the phrase: " .....I doubt you'll care about this info..", as i am actually asking for advice from those who have experienced nipple piercings and discomfort, etc. i probably took it the wrong way, and i know i am probably sounding a little on the defensive side; however, unlike some OPs who i have noticed in the past, posted on this forum asking for input or advice only to throw it back in others' faces, i value everyone's input, and wouldn't tell anyone to get stuffed if it's something i wasn't hoping to hear :)

I meant if they are still oozing or crusting. As long as that has stopped, no worries. If it hasn't give your doctor a call and just ask the question to be sure. Oozing and crusting I don't think (although I only have pierced ears and don't even wear earrings) is normal.

And enjoy the padded bra, lol.

Its actually a little normal for them to ooze a bit and crust over (ie ooze wasnt cleared up right when it started) The issue with the nipples ive found with myself, is the rings bars prevent scarring, so when you have an open wound that cant scar over, it tends to seep a bit. as long as you keep with the washing and the cleaning and the soap after a few weeks to a month or more the oozing stops, Sometimes it continues a bit even after that period,

I find even now over a year later, if i bump or hit or they are played with esp hard they some times ooze still a little bit.

I'm not saying it ISN"T normal or that there IS something wrong. I did say that whatever reading material she received from the poster should address this and it is NEVER a mistake to pose the question to your doctor. Better to know everything is fine than to just assume so and have an infection.

I think the comfort that all of us have around here in posting health questions to the rest of us is fine to see that you aren't alone or to get others opinions. I don't, however, think it is ever fine to take what any of us say as anything other than a non professional opinion. Because even for the nurses that respond and anyone who might be a medical doctor, we aren't looking at the problem, we aren't performing an exam and we really just don't know if it is ok or not ok. In this particular case, since her doctor has already seen the piercings, a simple phone call is all that will be needed.

I completely agree, Im just saying in all of the reading material I was giving I was told to expect it, and if it didnt stop around "x" time or had a color or odor to contact a Dr right away.

Mine don't ooze, thank god :) No discharge whatsoever :)

If catching them becomes too much of a nuisance until the piercings heal, you could "tape" them down with bandaids. It will also help keep the metal from getting so cold, and further irritating the nipple.

couple things, you should be wiping them with saline BEFORE rotating them otherwise you're pulling even crusties you can't see inside the piercing and further irritating it. So before moving them, wipe with saline, especially get off any visible crusties. Then rotate, and rewipe. Second, as someone else mentioned, you might be better off with barbells as opposed to rings. I had to switch mine to barbells because the rings pulled too much. It really depends on the size of your nipples how much of an issue this will be. Finally, you can do a kosher/sea salt warm water soak on them once daily, it will expedite the healing process.

In general terms the amount of skin pierced in a nipple is greater than a clit hood, and thus takes longer to heal. Plus you don't have the cleansing properties of urine helping you out, and the added irritation of rubbing on fabric. It should and will take longer.

I used to work in a piercing shop, and this is far from an uncommon question.

i second the suggestion of kosher/sea salt saline soaks... use boiled water cooled to tolerable levels... reheat in the microwave if too cool. Very very soothing. i used small coffee cups, as warm as i could stand, with the water/salt mixture...just "soaked" twice a day til the water cooled for a couple months. Felt great; worked great... and the slight slough of dead cells continues for me all the time... not crusty, just clean them off daily after showering. i have barbells and they tend to catch the stuff and not want to let go of it sometimes.

Total healing for me was 8 months; greatly reduced pain after the first month. Still cause greater sensitivity in general...that's why they were put there. :)

I had both of mine done at the same time . Time for healing Female 9 -12 months , Male 6-9 months . The only thing you did wrong is to start out with rings insteed of stright bars ,

For a few (2-3) days after a trauma (like say a piercing) Oozing and crusting are completely normal. The oozing is blood plasma seeping through any areas that are not yet completely clotted, the crust is the fibrinogen, platelets, and other clotting factors doing exactly what they are supposed to do. The more blood flow through an area the longer this occurs. So ears maybe only an hour or two whereas nipples a few days. But... the ooze and crust should be clear or slightly opaque, if it is not then that may be an early sign of infection.

I personally had no idea it took so long for nipples to completely heal. Learn something new every day.
