Ok so aside from poor delivery and the entire lack of context for what was said...
Historically speaking, in the gay male Leather community, when it began and for several decades after, starting from the bottom was mandatory. As SM became more mainstream (expanded to the het community) this practice dropped off. Because the community as it's known today isn't structured the same way as it was, this practice simply cannot be enforced and thus, isn't mandatory.
The poor delivery prolly comes from smart ass who thinks he knows everything cuz he read it on the internet somewhere and likely has little to no real involvement with the "RL" community (or much of anyone else in the world). It's ok...it happens.
Whether you choose to subscribe to this method of "training" is entirely up to you. I do encourage you to take a learning stance though and get out in the world and interact with experienced Dommes on a real level...learn what's worked for them in their relationships and what lessons they can teach you that they learned the hard way...the ONE thing they wish they knew coming into this...and maybe even some play techniques by co-topping as a method.
