OP, is your objection that elected officials publicly prayed for their Country?
i'm just not sure if your object to this is because its Christian? Because its publicly religious(not JUST Christian)?  Because it involves faith? i'd just like to understand what offended you.

Bachmann is from Minnesota, as Franken is, as Jesse Ventura is.

Bachman is the fruitbat who got her start on the local school board and made a name for herself among the fundamentalist loonies by trying to force  classes on creationism, and barring the Disney movie "Aladdin" from being shown in schools because it promotes satanism and witchcraft (hey, it's got a genie, right?) Which is an absolutely perfect example of why I will never, ever, vote for any republican for any office at any level of government at all as long as I live. You can't let these lunatics get a foot in the door; just like  cockroaches, you've got to stamp them out the minute you see them, or they'll overrun you.

In addition, she's an attorney who didn't want to be an attorney, but her husband told her to go to law school and she did because the bible teaches women to obey their husbands. Didn't want to become a legislator, either, but god directly instructed her to run, so she did.

Can you imagine what kinda fucked up phone conversation she and god had, panda? Maybe she should have got her degree in communication.

The abject stupidity I warrant. And you have ellided the point of the prayer, btw.

Seriously, you think this was a religious act, not political theater?

How about you? When the bill passes, will you see it as God's will?

I'm sorry, guys; I was browsing so many videos, I didn't notice that this segment didn't have the context. This was part of an approximately hour long revival meeting in which senators and members of the house of representatives prayed to god to defeat the health care bill.

So what? People pray to God that the Lakers will beat the Celtics. Some democrats tie women up and beat them with things. Yeah, the way people pray to their God can sometimes be a bit around the bend but I can dredge up a dozen Nancy Pelosi vids that are scarier than that. After perusing videos of quotes of some of our democrat incumbents I have to question at least the intelligence if not indeed the sanity of anyone who votes democrat. Your solution isn't much better than the problem.

Sanity -> RE: God, Smite This Health Care Bill! (12/19/2009 8:48:55 AM)

Progressives and Communists and Socialists hijacking the environmental religions in order to move their political agendas is the same sort of thing, but only far, far worse in my opinion.

Whats going on in Copenhagen even as the Global Warming cult is collapsing in on itself is a perfect example of this.

I didn't realize that Bachmann and Stuart Smalley are both from Minnesooooooota but it doesn't surprise me. I always kinda liked Jesse. I didn't always agree with him but I admired him. I really liked it that day when he went out on the steps to talk with protesters. I see he has a new tv show. Some conspiracy theory thing. I'll have to check it out.

It's not intended to be a solution, because there is no solution to this problem. The American political system, and the American government, are fatally and irreparably dysfunctional. My only interest is in not helping make it even worse by letting more republicans into positions of power. It's not that democrats are any better than republicans; it's more that most republicans are even worse than democrats. I'm just doing what i can to slow the inevitable total collapse of American society. With a little luck, the worst won't come until after my lifetime.

Yeah this is much better:

"The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law and then wants us to sing 'God Bless America.' No, no, no, God damn America, that's in the Bible for killing innocent people"God damn America for treating our citizens as less than human. God damn America for as long as she acts like she is God and she is supreme."

Except, as usual, you are missing the point.

Jeremiah Wright is a private citizen, Michele Bachmann is a member of Congress.

He is a private citizen who, by the POTUS' own admisstion, had great influence him.

I don't see anything particularly offensive in her prayer, at least no more offensive than ANY prayer.

First of all, let's be clear who we're talking about here. These are the same people who, a couple of hundred years ago, were burning women at the stake for having too many cats. The exact same people. The only reason they're not still doing it is because those fucking libruls have gone and passed a law against burning people at the stake, so they've grudgingly adopted a different methodology. For the time being, anyway.

They're not praying for their country, they're praying against their fellow human beings. It's not a question of faith - it's a question of basic human values, and these people have none. 2 million of their fellow citizens -  the people these legislators were elected to represent - are driven to bankruptcy every year by crushing medical costs, and tens of thousands each year die because they can not afford adequate health care. And the ignorant savages in this video are praying to their god to protect the system that allows this, so that insurance companies can continue to make 200 billion dollars a year in profits and the CEOs of those companies can continue to make an annual mean salary of over $12 million. That's the problem I have with them.

Let me ask you something - you're a person of deep religious conviction (which I respect greatly, believe it or not.) How do you reconcile that? How do you reconcile that much human suffering for the sake of corporate profits greater than the gross national product of most countries? Where is the christianity in that? Because that is exactly what these people are praying for. How does that fit what you consider to be christian principles? I'm genuinely curious.

The witch Drs. song was pleasant/fun but I like to get my news from PBS and these three guys had a pretty good discussion about health care among other things, they get together every Friday night.

I don't know how I feel about this healthcare bill now; if they do kill it they better go to reconciliation immediately and get it done.

Where is the christianity in that?

I know you were referring to something else, but the same question occurred to me when I saw what was going on in the video. I was raised in a Christian home, but I don't recognize the religion that I was raised in here. In fact, the thing made me feel nauseous. Different strokes, I guess, but I'm with you on this one. I could quibble over painting all Republicans with the same brush. But the way things are going, maybe tomorrow.

I don't understand how these Christians are so opposed to helping their fellow man. Seems like Christians should be all for the health care bill even if we cannot afford it. Even if it costs them every cent they have aren't they the ones who should be leading the charge to help the poor?

Wow, and yet they look so young. Simply amazing. So how did they stay alive so long and why haven't we heard about it till now?

As to the op, yea people pray about all kinds of things. I had a friend who used to pray on a regular basis, that his church would not find how kinky he was and tell him he can't be a deacon anymore. He used to also pray that his kids would not find out he was screwing around on their mother. Not sure how God would have processed that prayer. But then again he was a liberal, so I guess it's ok. Now if he had been a republican that alone would have proved what asshats the right wingers are.
