The cops as far as I could see in the first three adds were male.

I also didn't read those as BDSM at all. Just police violence.

You're right. I'd forgotten about those. I perceived them the same way and pushed them out of my mind as unpalatable. I hope they were part of some big brilliant ad campaign that put those in some type of perspective.

Agreed. But hugely powerful for the message.
The vanilla public would see no distinction between an abuser with a victim and a dominant male with a consenting partner.

But also, this here is not the general public, and JekylHyde explicitly made the request here for maledom material to people who do know the difference, so I guess I can see why he (politely) commented on this when the response was mainly femdom themed adverts.

There are maledom (or rather, femsub) adverts out there, in fact: the first pic is of a live demo but there are PETA print ads out on the same theme, I just can't lay my hands on the linky
