Possibly not reported. I obviously can't say for sure if they were. The mods would know that.

What I do know for sure was that in one particular thread at least 6 or 8 posts followed that pointed the slurs out and commented on them. The thread I believe was eventually closed much later for a totally different reason - basically for going too long I believe. Again, the Mods would know why.

Isn't it a copout to say something has to be reported first? It's not a violation until someone formally points it out?

I'm pretty sure the thread in question was long enough and volatile enough for the Mods to be keeping an eye on it themselves, yet nothing was done.

If it winds up becoming too much like Fetlife, I'm out of here, but we'll just have to see how it all shakes out.

Would you mind expanding on that please?  In comparing the two sites, I've often heard people say things like: CM has better thread formatting and search features, while FetLife has fewer scammer profiles and nasty-email senders.  You seem to be saying something different, though.  Are you?

Well, not really. I don't know anything about scammer profiles, because none of them ever contact me and I never contact... well, anybody, really. Nasty e-mails? I've only gotten one in my time here, so again, that's not an issue for me.

I just don't care much for the discussion forums on Fetlife at all. First of all, the whole format is incomprehensible. You've got bazillions of groups all devoted to the exact same topics, and bazillions more that are nothing but nonsense ("I'm Not Old Enough To Drink, But I'm Young Enough To Bang"? What the fuck is that about?) It's all noise; total chaos. Finding an interesting discussion is far more effort than it's worth.  But now that I think about it, obviously that would never be a problem here, because the user-friendly structure is already firmly in place here. That's not going to change.

I guess more than anything, what i was referring to when i said that was the lack of moderation there. I like the new, looser standards of moderation here, but if they swing too far in the direction of Fetlife to try to hold onto the market share they're losing to Fet (and make no mistake; in spite of VideoAdmin's protestations, that's a big reason why they are loosening up the moderation here), this place will have no value anymore for serious discussions. It'll just be Comedy Central, and there won't be any point at all in trying to have a serious discussion about anything. At that point, this place will just be a waste of time, and I'll move on. And so will a lot of others. Let's hope it doesn't come to that, because right now it's a pretty damned good message board. But we'll see. Time will tell.

If you see something contrary to TOS (which to my reading includes the things I mentioned at the beginning of this thread), please use the Report button.

I will not. I reported one insulting person once and the result was that my very successful fat poll got pulled without notifying me beforehand so that I might save the poll data.

I dunno about racial slurs. I have a very strong suspicion that people who complain about those things are racists and very evil themselves. There are very many ugly politically correct people who contribute to problems by denying that such problems exist. It is what physicians often do: "Why do you bother me about your chest pain! It is simply the flue. Go home." The next day the healthy person drops dead, because he indeed had had a heart attack and the physician not recognizing and denying that fact decidedly did not help or improve his condition.

Hi Ebony,

This is a free site, which means not only are we not paying freaks like Domiguy to rile up the crowd, but moderators are volunteers. I'm not looking for sympathy. I chose to be a moderator here and I am glad to help. The thing is, we can't be everywhere all the time. I just came on and looked at my posts since last visit: 117 posts. You people surely have a lot to say!

Moderation is done on best efforts. We count on the members to use their better judgement and report a post that they feel is against the TOS. Look at the bottom of this post, right under your name where it says reply to, you'll see the Report button. All you have to do is click that and write "racial slur". A moderator will have this first in their tray and it will be dealt with.

Seconded. I've done a lot of moderating and site administration in my day, and I know what you guys are dealing with. You all have my complete and unqualified gratitude and respect. Thanks for your efforts.

Tell me about it.   I also own some adult yahoo groups.   Every now and then a fight over who is not doing enough.  I try to be rational.    One guy keeps on wanting me to dump another mod. If I take sides then I am left with no one. So I wont do that. Nor will I boot someone unless it is well needed.   I learned to appreciate people for what they offer- not what I demand.  per the groups.

I have had wonderful dealings with Mod 7 (*blows kisses).  Not only was a (what I consider pretty serious) situation dealt with quickly, but with good humor and kindness.  And boy did  I hate bugging the wonderful Mod.  *le sigh*... Maybe crepes are in order?  Yes, I think crepes.

Thanks for all the positive experiences...
