So I am sitting here procrastinating.

Should be scanning old family photos. Should be cleaning and re-organizing the pantry. Should be cleaning the spare bedroom aka my closet. You get the idea.

The other day we, well some of us, were giving a nameless person a hard time for calling their little computer corner a parlour. It sure didn't bare any resemblance to my great grandmother's parlour. Talk about an awesome house, that was it. Turn of the century farmhouse. Lots of dark wood work. Built in, glass fronted, book cases in one room. Built in leaded glass doors, china cabinets in another. Huge dark columns separating a living room from the dining room and yes, beautiful wooden pocket doors with a formal parlour behind them. A room for all their best things, largely unused but always perfect. A room a 5 yo little girl must be on her best behaviour to enter. That house still exists, but I know without a doubt it bares no resemblance to the one I remember. I cannot even want to drive past the farm I remember. Gone is the fence around the yard, the hollyhocks blooming along it, junk cars and broken plastic children's toys take their place.

The other day, in discussing that corner 'parlour' I began to wonder. What do our little parlours look like. I mean, I know my favourite space to read and type. I mentioned my comfy old leather sofa. I sit here when I have time, feet on the coffee table, coffee and or water, a dog or two, perhaps the cat fighting the computer for lap space. I Occasionally watch a large hawk or this time of year, a bald eagle soar out the windows. Mine isn't a parlour, just a corner of a living/dining/kitchen room in a humble little house on a hill. But it is my little slice of heaven. So I thought, it would be fun to share, and hopefully coax others to also.

Here is my parlour. (if I can resize it to load....)

Damn, that pic is big for the forums...LOL!

I would show a pic but I don't know where the camera is and frankly, I am kinda funky at the moment. I should be scanning pics myself and putting them on photobucket. On my sofa is part of an afghan I am working on, a pillow and a full-sizee chair massagener(?). Next to the sofa is the enhaler that I have to use in order to get this crud broken up (not working so far). The computer in on the other end, next to the bar. The bar has the printer on it, along with my music collection (8 CDs of best hits). We got 2 rockers, a broken recliner, 2 hideaway sewing machines, a custom curio cabinet and the entertainment center with a bunch of my crocheting patterns hidden there. Just a bit cozy but it works out for the both of us.

I had a couch like that.
I hated it.

I had to dust it- and it was too hot in summer- cold in winter.

I see the scene of the crime that - well your CM weapon- prominently displaying on the table.

I have the same laptop and the same mug as LaT. Can't decide whether this is a good thing or a terrible indictment of our mass-produced modern way of life.

Can't find my camera but my lair is basically my bed, not very interesting. This is where I read and study and surf anyway. If I go downstairs I will get sucked into a few glasses of wine, or ordering junk food, or making a 3 storey living room-sized playhouse for the kittens, or painting a mural of our landlord on the wall. And I'm studying dammit!

LaT, Ward is gonna be upset that the pic doesn't have you lounging on the couch, in spiked heels and garters, etc.

I don't have much of a "spot" right now; a cheap folding table and chair, and a laptop that might not be long for this world. But I have a nice view out my windows, and that's enough.

I love that mug.  I love drinking the morning coffee out of nice, big, pottery mugs.

The blankie throw doesn't suck, either

Level, if I had been in the photo, at that moment..........I would have scared Ward out of three years life.

I gots no parlour.

This computer is in the "laundry room", along with a washtub, file cabinet, two printers, and a fax machine. The actual laundry room is in the basement.

Big house, but I don't have a lot of personal space in it.

my place is a work in progress- or more to the point- a catastrophe in disrepair.

I now get online in the living room.  I was in the Pine room- otherwise I would be in the white room- (view of river there)

Here LaT, I resized it for you! I've found that pictures which are about 50K in size work best here on the forums.

And I don't have any current pictures of my "lair"; right now I'm in the dining room, because that's where the phone cord reaches. And believe me, as PA said, my room is a catastrophe in disrepair! I'll post a pic after I finish cleaning it tonight.

But here's a picture of my "Parlour' when we had everything out to re-do the wood floors. That's my daughter and her cat Rajah, about a month before he passed away. He was so distressed about everything being moved about! I'll try to find a pic from when it had furniture in it, I'm sure they are on a disk somewhere around here.

my favorite flop spot right now is my futon. it is brown (which i hate the color brown) and covered with a burgundy sheet and a red white and black quilt. i love it, especially right now. It is my bed, my office, when my 9 year old hellion wants to play it is a fort. when everyone else is in bed it is my quiet spot to write in my journal. Right in front of it is the heater for the basement (i live in a basement apartment at my mother-in-laws house to help take care of her) and the 55" LCD HD tv hooked up to direct tv satellite, WII and X-Box 360 so i am as content as i can be right now. i can take all the pics i want, but the cord to hook my phone to my laptop is at work and i still have no way to get to work to get it.

Sweet Poosy thank you so much for editing my photo! I do a great job taking them I just hate the computer/editing part sometimes. Your home looks beautiful! I love old houses and all that they entail. The beautiful wood work and floors, I adore your windows!!! The kitty is adorable too...

PA there are actually two plants in that photo. The one on the right looks rather sad right now as I had to trim it back severely this last summer. It was crowding the ceiling and hasn't done a good job of filling back out quite yet. To the right of that is a huge boston fern on a little table. This house is fabulous for plants with all the windows.

LaT, you are welcome, and thank you for your compliments. That peacock window was the result of someone discovering that little ol' mild mannered Rosie COULD get pissed off! I slammed the door so hard one day when one of the mothers of a friend of my daughter's was trying to tell me how to raise my child. As soon as I started to slam, I knew what was going to happen! In a thrice, a piece of 100 year old glass was in shards on the porch!

Sooo...I wanted a piece of stained glass in the door anyway!

Your plants so look very healthy, even the trimmed one, I wish I had a green thumb with indoor plants, I just have to be content with my rose gardens...speaking of which, I need to prune and start watering for the spring this next week.

That looks so wonderful to me LaT! I cannot be near a window and it drive's me nuts. I go to try to stretch and try to see out a window and spend about one minute on my sofa. It is beautiful... but if I sit on it for say ten minutes, I may not be able to walk. My daughter was just here and saying there might be a sofa for sell soon with her grandmother in law who just passed away. She had to have firm furniture and I am hoping that if they do sell it, it might work for me.

I do have lots of orchids and plants though! And a huge picture of an island and one that still needs to go up... that help make up for the lack of being near a window.

For now, I sit in an old... clay doh colored lazy boy... the firmest thing I could find, with memory foam peices and there is nothing pretty about it! It's not working so well and I need a new chair badly, but few make something small enough for me and firm enough.

Once this sectional is replaced, I may get nearer to a window! Anyone interested in a very pretty suede looking sectional? lol
