Yeah, guilty here on that. I'll get to it eventually.

It's not like it's going to change anybody's mind. People are pretty entrenched at this point.

From Newsbusters (with video):

Kucinich's 'Fairness Doctrine' Threat To O'Reilly

During George W.'s administration, liberals loved to wail over the supposed--but never demonstrated--suppression of free speech.

But now we have the spectacle of a member of the Dem majority warning a leading representative of Fox News to stop celebrating his network's success--under threat of reinstitution of the so-called "Fairness Doctrine." On last evening's Factor, Rep. Dennis Kucinich, invoking the possibility of the return of the 'Fairness Doctrine,' warned O'Reilly to stop "crowing" about Fox's success.

O'Reilly had been questioning Kucinich about the collapse of the liberal media as reflected in the demise of Air America and Fox's crushing of CNN and MSNBC during this past Tuesday's election night coverage by margins of five and six-to-one.

Fox news smokes them in the ratings. Why?, because the right needs to be constantly reminded that they are right.

The left just believes and moves on.

I am speaking of the populace, not the politicians

That's a rather large crock of shit. It isn't about constantly reminding anyone. It's more about the only place where their voice can be heard without this type of elitist attitude. Democrats and Republicans, and I'm speaking to the extremes in both parties are morons. Both sides seem to view a win as a mandate to shove their bullshit down the other side's throat, then can't figure out why they start losing again. I don't watch Fox news or spend much time listening to pundits. I do know however, that neither side is going to "win" without ripping this country in half, and the biggest problem with both sides is that neither will simply shut the fuck up and mind their own business.

Musicmystery -> RE: So long Air America and don't worry... (1/23/2010 7:19:42 AM)

Left or right, I've no interest in any "voice" that exists to bend reality to its wish.

Jeffff -> RE: So long Air America and don't worry... (1/23/2010 7:22:47 AM)

Fox News averaged 2.25 million total viewers in prime time for the third quarter, up 2% over the previous year. That's more than CNN (946,000, down 30%) and MSNBC (788,000, down 10%) combined.
"The O'Reilly Factor" led all cable news programs with an average of 3.295 million total viewers for the quarter, up 12% over the previous year. "Hannity" (2.603 million, up 9%), "Glenn Beck" (2.403 million, up 89%), "On the Record with Greta van Susteren" (2.150 million, up 16%), and "Special Report with Bret Baier" (1.997 million, up 20%) rounded out the top five.
Meanwhile, flagship programs at MSNBC and CNN did not sustain their growth from 3Q 2008: At MSNBC, "Countdown with Keith Olbermann" averaged 1.087 million total viewers, down 12% from the previous year and "The Rachel Maddow Show" averaged 996,000 total viewers (Maddow began the program in September 2008, so a comparison for the quarter would be inaccurate; compared to September 2008, though, Maddow's September 2009 total viewer average is down 40%). At CNN's "Anderson Cooper 360" averaged 1.005 million viewers, down 17% from the previous year and "Lou Dobbs" averaged 658,000 total viewers, down 24%. Larry King and Campbell Brown were both down just slightly in total viewers.
CNN in particular had a rough quarter in the primetime Adults 25-54 demo: the network dropped 39% compared to 3Q 2008, averaging 287,000 viewers.

It may be a crock of shit to you. the ratings make the point.

popeye1250 -> RE: So long Air America and don't worry... (1/23/2010 8:01:07 AM)

I tried to listen to Air America twice.
It was boring, predictable and not very entertaining just like that Keith Olberman who thinks everything's a republican conspiracy.
I listen to The Howie Carr show WRKO 680-am Boston, Mass which comes on at 3p and runs through 7p.
He's funny, entertaining, has great guests on and is irreverant. He and his staffers make fun of him and get a lot of laughs.
He plays tapes from Boston Mayor Thomas "Mumbles" Menino ("This Democratic convention is an Alcatraz around my neck!") and Rep. Patrick "Patches" Kennedy D. R.I. (" I, myself, have taught myself.") and other pols and whenever a judge gets pulled over for a DWI Howie is on it like white on rice.
And when Howie goes on vacation he has guests like Col. David Hunt on to fill in.
Howie even said that he has to be entertaining, "if I'm not the listeners can sense it so I have to be "up" everyday."
That's the problem with those lefty shows, they're boring and you feel like you're at a pity party just listening to them. Humor escapes them as they're "offended" by everything!
Every once in a while Howie will do a show about the "Bums" on the streets of Boston begging for money "to get some Mad Dog 20-20."
"'Ey Cap'n, got an extra buck for some.....coffee?" "Today for the first hour we'll be doing BUM survey!"
See, you couldn't do that on lefty radio as they'd be "offended" by making fun of the,..."disadvantaged in society."
Howie calls them "BUMS!" "Yeah, WINOS! The MUSCATELLE MAURADERS!"
How are you going to be funny if everything "Offends" you?

The ratings make the point that independents swing back and forth depending on who is trying to fuck them the most. If Bush tended to piss you off, you listened to the others. Now that Obana is tending to piss people off, they're moving away from the blatant worship of him from those whose ratings are falling.

And music, both damned sides bend reality. If you've no wish to hear such in voices, I suggest you simply quit listening to every one.

Which is about where I am.

As I've already said, several times in several places, I don't listen to them. I never have.

I like my news from news organizations, not places of any ilk that start by deciding what the news should say.

In fact, I just finished saying it here:

Part of the problem, like it or not, is that people hear what they want or what they think they'll hear, not what's there.

Just as you did.

Jeffff -> RE: So long Air America and don't worry... (1/23/2010 9:56:53 AM)

I have stopped watching any televised news more than a year ago. I read both papers here daily.

I will admit to watching the Daily show.... but not for news.... just for humor...:)

I can't find my percentage facts for tax dollars supporting NPR. I do have a question though. If they are getting only 2% of their operating budget from the federal government, why do they go ballistic when attempts to cut funding are brought up? Follow the money...

Better question....When did you decide that it was a good idea to spew out information that was based on fiction? Have you no regard for the truth?

Furthermore, how should one perceive any thoughts you might like to share in the future out her.  It is obvious that you have no problem with reporting anything that will support your opinion regardless if it is true or not.

Jeffff -> RE: So long Air America and don't worry... (1/25/2010 1:54:31 PM)

Why do you hate America? Why won't you support the troops?

domiguy -> RE: So long Air America and don't worry... (1/25/2010 1:56:07 PM)

I never liked the troops.

DomImus -> RE: So long Air America and don't worry... (1/26/2010 4:44:25 PM)

I just love The Onion.

If failed because many on the left do not need their opinions fed to them by often poorly informedĀ  and often ignorant pundits.

The left does not need to be catered too as the right seems to be.

The left, as you will notice by the presidents falling numbers, are not slaves to dogma or doctrine.

Jeff

too bad you are so ill informed you dont know that its the indies who are dropping his numbers, not the left

Jeffff -> RE: So long Air America and don't worry... (1/26/2010 5:29:41 PM)

Dude.. despite what you might think, the overwhelming majority of Americans are Indies. The fringe exists at the fringe.

Tell me, if you believe, as I do, that it is your right to both carry a gun and have an abortion, are you a Democrat?, or a Republican?

The Teabaggers and the WTO demonstrators are the fringe. They get the most press because  of their extreme views, not in spite of it.

Jeff

Yes. I believe in both. Im a conservative, which by the rule of limited choice makes me a Republican.

And of course you once again avoided responding directly to one of your inaccuracies. Your claim was that it was the left abandoning Obama, and you respond with "the overwhelming majority are indies", which also isnt correct.

Jeffff -> RE: So long Air America and don't worry... (1/26/2010 6:33:54 PM)

You make a good point. I suppose I see myself as leftist, because all I ever see of the right is strident nonsense, Glen Beck et al.  I am issue oriented, not dogma oriented.

Most of the stuff I see typed here for instance, by the right, is mindless dribble to me. It seems hateful and dumb.

I mean really dumb.

I think most people voted for the President really wanting change. I think he has yet to deliver. Folks are pissed about that

Jeffff -> RE: So long Air America and don't worry... (1/26/2010 6:37:01 PM)

Incidentally, luckydawg never can back to answer My question. I find that interesting,

Slavehandsome -> RE: So long Air America and don't worry... (1/26/2010 6:51:26 PM)

Its really important that a Republican, any Republican, win that seat held so long by Ted Kennedy. Before zooming in on the fact that logic would have told you that a Democrat would have filled the seat, we should all zoom out and understand that by a Republican taking the seat, it thereby enables a deadlock in Congress, which will serve to further frustrate the American taxpayer in a partisan manner, meanwhile nothing, no real change, takes place for the next few years at least. The headline should read "Get Back To Work, There Will Be Nothing But Partisan Bickering In Congress For The Next Couple Of Years" and each side can blame the other while America continues to erode financially. Only after America has eroded to the point that it NEEDS the North American Union (already signed into effect by W.) will some bright guy come forward with a possible solution, called the North American Union. And we'll fall for it, because "the American people won't stand for it!"
