my husband is on this site and he has genital herpes. I am concerned for eveyone's safety as he is not causious. He has already given it to me. I am going to be leaving the site shortly for that reason. i dont feel that I can safely participate. Any one out there needs to be careful. Its an extremely bothersome disease and there is no cure. Thanks ******** for leaving me with this.

Piercedboy - sorry to say it, but you are definitely going to have to use dental dams from now on unless you have a partner who already has genital herpes.  Dental dams aren't going to feel as good as direct contact for either you or your Mistress, but you can still have fun while using one.

Good luck and remember to take care of yourself.

lusciouslips19 -> RE: i have herpes (1/26/2010 10:51:22 AM)

Im not sure if thats true. Thats like telling the person to never kiss again. from what I remember from what I have learned,
Herpes simplex 1, does not shed like genital herpes. So I do not think there is the same fear of contracting between outbreaks. Whats important is recognizing the warning and do not engage then.

Genital herpes and oral herpes are different. A person with genital herpes can contract oral herpes. there is a little resistance to it, but it is still possible to pass the differing strains to those with the other.

Well done for caring enough to come here seeking advice on how to do things safe and responsibly. With a dental dam there is still a lot of scope for fun

bemyslut -> RE: i have herpes (1/26/2010 8:11:21 PM)

Herpes Simplex virus Type I commonly referred to as oral herpes and Herpes Simplex virus type II commonly referred to genital herpes.  Both of these viruses behave the same. Yes, HSV does have a shedding phase; since the lips are highly innervated, it is much easier to know when one is having an outbreak. HSV II in women can be somewhat more difficult to detect for a number of reasons. First if the lesion occurs on the cervix, one can not see the outbreak due to its location. Secondly, the cervix does not sense pain from lesions (nocioreceptors on the cervix are stretch receptors) and thus it is possible to be shedding and never be aware of it.  If you are having an oral outbreak, your saliva will contain billions of virus particles any of which can cause the disease.  A dental dam can reduce the chances of transmission; but if your saliva were to drip off the dam on onto her mucosa, you could easily pass the virus onto her

This may or may not be true. Go to your doctor, get the facts for your case and then encourage all partners to talk to their doctors.

However, you NEED to keep in mind that there are several strains of herpes so even if you get a partner who has genital herpes you need to find out which strain they have and what strain you have. Some strains cause the typical blisters. Others can lead to cervical cancer.

From my memories, one can get genital herpes in the mouth. It's just very uncommon. Which is why the OP really should talk to his doctor and ask the blunt question of "Can I still go down on a woman? What are my risks? What do I need to do to protect my partners, if anything?".

xxblushesxx -> RE: i have herpes (1/26/2010 9:47:34 PM)

These days you can have either kind of herpes in either area. You can give your genital herpes to someone's mouth, and your oral herpes to someone's genitals.

~FR~

HSV-1 sheds just like HSV-2 and can shed even if there are no sores.  HSV-1 and 2 are virtually identical and share 50% of the same DNA.  The major difference is the "site of preference."  Genital herpes can be caused by HSV-1 or 2, although sores around the mouth are typically caused by HSV-1.  There is some evidence to suggest a person who contracts HSV-2 has resistance to HSV-1, but whether or not a person with HSV-1 has resistance to HSV-2 is a contested issue.

OP - since you indicate you have sores in your mouth, chances are you have HSV-1 but you should ask your doctor to be certain.  For most people, herpes around the face and mouth is no big deal.  As long as you're careful, you should be fine.  Treat this like you would any other disease such as a cold or flu.  You're contagious, and the outbreaks are uncomfortable and annoying, but it's not going to ruin your life.

Try to avoid open-mouth kissing and oral sex during an outbreak or when you think you have one starting, and use dental dams or some other type of barrier between outbreaks.  You also should not share eating utensils with a partner, especially during an outbreak.  This doesn't mean keep your cups and silverware separate, just don't eat off the same fork or drink from the same glass.  You wouldn't kiss open-mouthed or share those things if you had a cold or the flu, right?  Same general principle applies.

You will still be able to satisfy a woman, even with a barrier.  It may take a little longer, but it can be done.  Think of it this way -- you can still have an orgasm with a condom on, so she can still have one if you're using a dental dam.  You can even use a condom that's been cut up the side as a dental dam and this will probably be less expensive.  Plus, condoms come in fun flavors!  [;)]

You'll want to be careful not to let your saliva drip past the barrier onto your lady because herpes can be transmitted through it.  However, this is pretty rare so you don't need to worry too much.  Your doctor can also prescribe medication to help prevent outbreaks and shorten the duration when you do have one.

piercedboy -> RE: i have herpes (1/26/2010 10:53:24 PM)

First let me thank every one for thier very kind and thoughtful responses!  My doctor is sending me to a specalist to see first if it really is herpes as it has a different look to it.  And to see what treatments are available.  Again thank you all.  You are all wonderful people and i am thankful i found this site and the great people on it.

No doubt!  I think this has got to be nearly a first!

AquaticSub -> RE: i have herpes (1/26/2010 11:24:13 PM)

I have actually seen similiar sentiments plenty of times. I've just noticed that positive comments don't get nearly as much attention.

Wonder why... [;)]

SylvereApLeanan -> RE: i have herpes (1/27/2010 1:02:48 AM)

Maybe because people automatically assume we're wonderfuland perfect and are shocked when we don't live up to their expectations?

Excellent advice.

I would also suggest this site: http://www.herpes-coldsores.com/ lots of information on Oral and Genital herpes and the risks, complications and safe sex advice.

I would still agree with what others said about going to your doctor to know for sure. But until then, take every precaution you can

persephonee -> RE: i have herpes (1/27/2010 5:12:05 AM)

Just wondering, ive always heard that INTACT seran wrap works as a barrier for oral....thinner, and so therefore more fragile....but a bit better in the sensitivity and taste dept....anyone heard about this being safe?

Oral Sex on the Vulva (outside of vagina) and Anus

If you are giving oral sex from mouth to vulva (outside of vagina) or from mouth to anus, you can protect yourself with methods such as the following:

Plastic Wrap (such as Saran or Cling Wrap)
Pros
Inexpensive and easy to find in any grocery or drug store)
Covers a larger area

Can be used with oil- or water-based lubricants
Allows heat to be felt through the wrap
Cons
Can rip -- use caution with fingernails
