We are one of the of the few places that does this... and it is not as if we are ashamed of our roots that we do it, it is actually a statement of pride in them...
I'm not sure I see how requiring a Canadian of African descent to select "African American" represents a "statement of pride" in his or her "roots".
Um... where did Canada enter the discussion... I missed this entirely!
I identify as a Scottish American... I did not realize I was ashamed of my Scot ancestry

I see your point from an earlier post...I am tired, Daddy took me out for steak and lobster last night and I have a slight hangover from the wine...
I was unaware that Canadians that had ancestors that came from Africa had a terrible time labeling themselves...
I mean, there are three Black people in Canada... right?..(I am joking btw)

So I guess they do not call themselves African Americans... although technically I suppose it would be okay, since they do live in North America... Like in South America they call both Canadians and US citizens Norte Americanos
