Research PCOS (Polycystic ovary syndrome) and see if she fits into that category.

Good Luck!  :)

Thanks, I will look into it so I can be better prepared hopefully to spot it. This is the first time anything like this has happened to her though so there is no pattern yet to follow or find.

There's a lot of good advice posted. Sadly for some of us, the cysts are just a part of life.
If your sister doesn't follow the signs for PCOS, you might research endometriosis.

Thank you FelineFae. With this happening, I am going to be more alert to such possibilities in the future. I'm already going to call her reg doc tomorrow and fill her in on this.

Something to bare in mind about 'endo; they can only diagnose it through a surgury.

BUT

If she does have it, she'll likely need surgury anyways to have "implants" removed. Most of the time, having these nasty things taken out can minimize some pain,,, until they grow back.

If endo' turns out to be your bad guy, feel free to Cmail me, i've got way more expirience than i'd like on the matter.

I have pcos and have had a cyst rupture. The pain is intense-- I passed out once-- but it usually goes away by itself, without pain meds, in a matter of hours. If it's lasting a long time there might be something else wrong, like fibroids.

So. As a nurse I say, bother the stupid medical establishment until you get the answer you need.

Being that her sister is in the 40ish range, if she had endometriosis, they would have known a lot sooner.

It is possible that she simply had a cyst, and now it is gone. While keeping an eye out is always good, simply being aware should be enough. Sometimes things like this just happen and I wouldn't want to see Sarah or her mom going crazy looking for more things to be wrong unless there is a reason to, which at this point, there isn't.

I'm not going to go outer limits on this. This is the first time anything like this has happened with her. I've talked with her reg doc about it and she has a follow up appt with her. The cyst was found on abdominal CT and everything else looked great on CT. Cyst was only visible problem. She is doing better each day.

Mom had cataract surgery yesterday so anything that my sister needs done will be by me until Mom heals from it and from the other eye when it is done soon.

First of all, I think you are an awesome person to be so caring and concerned about your sister. I remember a few years ago, I had a cyst that ruptured and I can understand what your sister went through in being nervous and not sitting still. The pain felt like an elephant was standing on my stomach as I could not breathe and this was happening during my period.

My primary care physician was not in the office and went to see another doctor. I felt like an idiot by the time I saw this physician because the pain went away. His theory was that I might be suffering from possible appendicitis and he prescribed some medication for me. He also told me if I had another flare-up, I should go to the ER. He was so wrong on that assumption because I had no pain after that episode.

I also took some herbal products such as Ginseng and Gingko. He told me to stop using the herbal products because the Ginseng extended the periods. Once I stopped, my periods became regular. Considering my past history of irregular periods and now I am perimenopausal, I was referred to a gynecologist and I am happy because I would rather see a female for these problems as I feel they have more empathy.
