PeonForHer -> RE: Women's Rights! (3/18/2010 5:49:23 PM)

FR, Why do people keep chanting "What about individual responsibility?" like a mantra? A child isn't just the mother's responsibility nor even that of both parents. A child is the responsibility of society as a whole. 'Rights never go without responsibilities' - another mantra so beloved of the political right, everywhere. But, again, society wants the right to an individual's contribution to it - up to and including the right forcibly to risk that individual's life in a war. This isn't just about individuals. it's about society. In particular, it's about a society that, despite its vast wealth and obvious greed for even more, is still steeped in a defunct ideology that desperately tries to make a virtue out of selfishness. So, then: what about social responsibility - and the idea that we are all the 'uncles and aunts' of every child in our society? *Sigh* - again, something that only very primitive tribespeople seem to believe, apparently.
