blueeyedbbwsub -> Your favorite silly/guilty pleasure movie? (4/2/2010 8:07:05 AM)

I haven't quite grown up yet, left that to my sister, more fun this way. These are a few movies that I've come to consider as my guilty pleasures because most people think I'm nuts. But I'm really special, the best of the nuts, the honey roasted pecan. [:D][:D]

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

Blazing Saddles (the beans n farts scene is enough to make me snort da pepsi)

It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World

Willie Wonka and the Chocolate factory (1971 original w/Gene Wilder)

My hidden guilty pleasure: Janine Loves Jenna (nope, most definitely not for the 'nilla folksies)

I know there's more, but right now? I'm still not quite awake and mostly brain dead. Hence the reason for a silly thread.

Now how did you know that those movies are hiding in the closet? My silly and guilty favorites include, of course, 'The Wizard of Oz', plus W.C. Fields' 'It's a Gift' (I can recite the lines along with the characters-- when I'm not laughing), also my complete Woody Woodpecker collection. I am afraid there are quite a lot more, too. In fact, it looks like all of my favorite movies are silly and guilty pleasures. Figures.

I get the same response from the people who know me entirely too well. [:D] I'm really into the original Warner Bros cartoons and of course Hanna-Barbera. I miss Magilla Gorilla, Touche Turtle and Snaglepuss. I always know that if I'm feeling down I just have to plug in some silly-ass movie I've seen countless times to get back into my head. Forget an apple a day, make it a laugh-your-ass-off day. [&:]

Check out The Island of Dr. Moreau (1996.) A ridiculously funny movie that wasn't meant to be funny. You will be surprised at the actors in it.

blueeyedbbwsub -> RE: Your favorite silly/guilty pleasure movie? (4/2/2010 11:19:06 AM)

Yikes I've seen that one. Some of the funniest movies were the ones that were supposed to be not-funny. It's like the old B movies. I've got a bunch at home and they're just so farkin hilarious to watch. Have to love Ed Woods for giving me so many laughs.

hejira92 -> RE: Your favorite silly/guilty pleasure movie? (4/2/2010 11:20:17 AM)

Blazing Saddles tops my list. But also:

Singing in the Rain
The Gay Divorcee (Fred and Ginger and the great line "Fate is chancy and I am a fool!")
Airplane
Young Frankenstein
Monty Python and the Holy Grail

and any screwball comedy starring Cary Grant (ie; Bringing Up Baby, My Favorite Wife, His Girl Friday, Arsenic and Old Lace, and the best of them all- The Philadelphia Story)

See? This is what happens when my brain is still in lock-down mode. I love the Mel Brooks movies. I also have a collection of Abbott and Costello as well as Don Knotts' movies from the 60's. The I Love Lucy series is another fave, and I loved the movies she made. Arsenic And Old Lace is another favourite, Cary Grant had such a style about him and the fact that he's really easy on the eyes just notches it up.

Another vote for Singing in the Rain.  Also, Under the Tuscan Sun and You've Got Mail

blueeyedbbwsub -> RE: Your favorite silly/guilty pleasure movie? (4/2/2010 4:49:36 PM)

The Sound of Music. One of my many all time faves. It's sometimes tough to pick what I want to watch, I have so many options and so little time.

Hello Dolly - gets me out of a funk every dang time!

And ok... it's not a movie, and you make think I'm silly, but there is this totally campy drama I'm watching on Youtube. Capital Scandal. I'm watching it a second time around.

Agreed on Cary Grant.  A Philadelphia Story and His Girl Friday in particular both rank high on my list of favorite films ever.  Definitely not guilty pleasures, though.

OrpheusAgonistes -> RE: Your favorite silly/guilty pleasure movie? (4/3/2010 11:27:43 PM)

For me, there's a definite distinction between "guilty pleasures" and "brilliant lighthearted movies."

There are a number of films, though, that I fully understand are, by any objective standard, terrible and that I love anyway.  They include:

My Best Friend is a Vampire
Fright Night 2
America's Sweethearts
Top Secret (the zany, retarded cousin to the genuinely wonderful Real Genius)
Bordello of Blood
License to Drive
Joe vs the Volcano
Dragnet
The Man With One Red Shoe
The Burbs

Clearly, my tastes for beautiful disasters and bedazzling trash gravitate toward that the 1980s--white Wayfarers, orange Swatches, false grails.  The Reagan years.  Also toward Tom Hanks before he became The Greatest Actor in the World.

ShaharThorne -> RE: Your favorite silly/guilty pleasure movie? (4/3/2010 11:56:47 PM)

The Addams! ♥ Silly and wonderful.  While other people take comfort in the Brady Bunch,...

I don't think I feel guilty about any of the silly comedies I favour.
I actually love some of the classic comedy, I'm just in the mood for the slightly more contemporary right now, and trying to limit this post to "silly" ones.
Just a few, then, 'cause I love so many films:

They just played Delirious on TV, reminding me of why that's on my comedy list.  Soap Dish (Robert Downey, Jr., about Catherine Moriarty: "Gosh she's cheap."  Whoopi Goldberg as a soap opera writer, "Actors don't like to play coma.  They feel it limits their range."  Sally Fields as a daytime diva whose new wardrobe mistress keeps trying to dress her in ever more misguided costumes.).

Intolerable Cruelty!  There's something new to laugh at every time you watch it.

I ♥ Huckabee's
Get Shorty (I call it the Tao of Chili Palmer).
A sweet funny film, Other People's Money
Blind Date and the Pink Panther movie with Capucine as Inspector Clouseau's wife, not only for Bruce Willis and Peter Sellers, but to see two beautiful women playing it straight while acting so silly and being hilarious at it.  Capucine really should have done more comedy!

Dude, Where's My Car!  OMG, now I have to watch that again.  I laughed till I cried, first time I saw the kissing scene in the car.

The Cary Grant movies mentioned, The Gay Divorcee and Singin' In the Rain are all favorites but not "guilty pleasures".

For guilty pleasures: Big Trouble in Little China, Gymkata, Sextette and The Game.
