probably mispelled that, but Im asking those who have experience in the area, what they do to make a choking or asphyxiation or breath play scene safe. I have been into BDSM for 8 years and avoid the act like the plague, because I will not try anything I have not done..or been schooled properly on how to do.

While it does interest me, and its likely to intrigue me enough to put it in my interests to hopefully gain knoweledge from others who might write to me with the same interests who have tried it , I would like to know the pro's and cons of safe play in this genre and encourage discussion on the topic..

any opinions appreciated..

I have some experience on the recieving end of this and this is all based on my experience and may or may not work for others.
I was involved in grappling, or ground fighting, for many years. This is something done under strict supervision with many rules. One of the ways to win a fight was to choke your opponent. To signal that you had had enough you "tapped out" this was done by deliberately tapping until the other person stopped. This could be done with the hand or the foot on any surface, usually in the case of grappling it was either on the other person or on the floor. This means that you must be aware and listening for the tapping to happen, because they will only do it when they can't take it any more. There was also a rule that if the person went limp, stopped struggling or passed out the other person was to stop immediately and release the person.
I use this same method with breath play. I always have a hand or foot free enough to tap. Before we started I made sure that my Dom was aware of the signal and what it would feel or sound like.

I hope this helps, and feel free to ask for clarification if I didn't explain something very well.

I see no problem with repeating a topic, i gave you the links for reference. When a topic is reintroduced we often get some new insight into it.

This is one thing on my limits list because of the fact it is scarey if the Dom dosen't know what He is doing... Since i found my last Dom (hopefully my Master oneday) i trusted Him enough to try it .. He wasn't real extreme but it was a totaly turn on for me and i wanted MORE! Until Him i didn't have the trust needed to play with this area so it stayed on my hard limit list.

i also am very interested in learning so i found a couple sites that are interesting that You may enjoy *smiles*

breathplay

more on breath control

Hope these help!
PLAY SAFE!

In terms of introducing breath play with a partner, having them perform self-asphyxiation in various ways is a good way to get one's partner used to the idea so they become more comfortable with it, at their own pace so that they don't panic. From watching them and noting intensity and duration, the top/dom can acquire some ques as to how much the subject tolerates comfortably and can use this information when taking command of the breath play. And yes, the tapping idea or something like it should be worked out and rehearsed. The links are great, by the way.
