NorthNewbie, There's no doubt that the more you can trim down with day a beard trimmer, the better off you are because the longer hairs will clog your razor. Once you've done that, use hot water to soften & moisturize things. Take a really hot washcloth for example and let it sit on your scrotum to soften it so you can stretch it. You really don't want to try and shave when its really tight. Later, once your skin gets used to being shaved, you'll be able to shave without that kind of prep in the shower. What also helps in terms of shaving creams is to use a woman's bikini shave lotion or gel that's more transparent. That helps in that you can see what you're doing. I'm confident they sell something similar in Norway to what's available here at WalMart. Applying hydrocortizone afterward will help reduce any skin irritation you might have the first few times you shave. For a razor, IMO, you can't beat the 5 blade Gillette Fusions! Just remember to rinse them frequently to remove hair stubble that's going to get caught between the blades; especially the first few times you shave or when you've not shaved in a while. Shaving between your cheeks can be difficult, of that there's no doubt. Having someone else do it for you is by far the easiest and safest method. Otherwise, you can of course first hack down as much of the forest first with a beard trimmer or clippers with the help of a mirror. Be especially carefull though around the anus which is where you're most likely to cut yourself. Afterward, do the same thing with the hot wash cloth, transparent gel shave lotion and your Gillette Fusion. You may find this difficult to believe, but in time, with experience you'll get to where your skin toughens and you can do all of this by yourself in the shower using only soap! That may take a year or two of regularly shaving yourself before you can do that though. Just be persistent and hang in there. Keeping yourself dry and using hydrocortizone are probably the two best things I can think of to minimize any rashes you might encounter from shaving. The other thing that helps most initially is to try and shave in the direction of the hair (I know that's difficult to do when it goes in all directions), but that should hopefully reduce the number of ingrown hairs you'll have as a result of shaving. As others have noted, pulling the skin tight is what helps the most. Much of it you can do by feel. The areas which you probably have to be the most careful of in the scrotum though are along the perineum which can be easily cut if you try to shave across it. Hope you find this helpful. - pixel
