For anyone who missed this photo on the thread that was. Here is a photo of Bush ( and Putin ) showing the proper way to look statesmanlike,  when meeting the Chinese.

http://aftermathnews.files.wordpress.com/2008/01/jintao_putin_bush.jpg

Did anyone guess my reason for posting this photo ?  Both Bush, and Obama, visited the China represnting the US. Both men did as they saw fit, Obama with the slight bow, Bush with the costume. Nothing wrong in either move. The simple fact is the US needs China for trade. Given the exisitng commercial ties between the two countries, ignoring China would be foolish.

Both of these threads were started as Obama bashing and nothing more.

Lucylastic -> RE: A bow to iron-fisted tyrants (4/14/2010 2:48:58 AM)

Polite, I love the pic, thank you, it looks like they are all taking a break from their painting class and now going for milk cookies or a nap.
Thats one for the collection of World Leaders gone wild!!!

If you chaps are smart, Obama will get re elected, he's the best thing to happen to the US in many many years. Of course YMMV
[:D]..

I have come to the conclusion that this is a psychological expression not so much of his shame in being American but of his realization of his own weakness and lack of experience, of his subconcious admission that he cannot stand up to them.

I wonder if he has night sweats and nightmares of drowning.

mnottertail -> RE: A bow to iron-fisted tyrants (4/14/2010 7:50:32 AM)

So, is that Jungian or Freudian analysis or what? No chance that apriori he was being polite in the form of their culture?

I have enough girls analyzing the 'hidden and real' reason I want blowjobs, don't need neocons adding to the irritations. Some shit is just plain fuckin simple and direct.

A little houskeeping on some things I missed yesterday....in my vicodin induced stupor [:)].
Caius are you suggessting I tell another poster to "kiss his own ass"?
Kitten I have apologised profusely to my son specifically and here in general many times....it was that whole switching horses in mid stream thing(even if the horse in question is more of an ass) and Kerry not having a back bone...but again....sorry[&o]

thornhappy -> RE: A bow to iron-fisted tyrants (4/14/2010 6:08:29 PM)

Wellll, lessee...while that thread was up, I posted a pic of Bush 43 bowing to (and kissing) the King of Saudi Arabia.

I also had a Bloomberg quote about one of Bush 43's visits:

"April 21 (Bloomberg) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao got what he wanted out of his meeting with his U.S. counterpart, George W. Bush: the respect due a full-fledged power on the world stage. What Bush gained may not be known for months or even years.

Bush's public remarks yesterday reflected acceptance of China's emergence as an economic and political heavyweight and the U.S.'s need for China's cooperation to reach foreign-policy goals.

The U.S. president raised no new demands for quick Chinese action to resolve differences over trade, currency and human rights -- and he got no promises. Both leaders, after acknowledging their differences, spoke mostly of cooperation, using that word in some form 36 times in three public events.

``From Hu's perspective, President Bush's rhetoric made clear that he regards China as a country of great weight in the international arena and regards the U.S-China relationship as extremely important,'' said Kenneth Lieberthal, a political science professor at the University of Michigan who headed China policy for President Bill Clinton's National Security Council."

Oops, forgot to mention Eisenhower bowing to Hirohito, and Nixon bowing to de Gaulle.

More importantly why did you start the same thread as FatDomSaniddy did...Isn't that against tos?

Maybe beause all of the bitching you did to the mods got it moved before he could see it???

The fact is... you would have NEVER allowed Bush 43 get away with bowing to the Chi-Coms without roasting him live on the boards.

And look.... you will not have to worry about President Obama disappointing you for much longer, he will only be cowtowing to the next Republican Congress for two years before he gets defeated by one of the largest margins in US History... if he even runs again.

We have a list of his accomplishments...may we have a list of yours?

of his subconcious admission that he cannot stand up to them.

Was there something in particular that you wanted him to stand up to them about?

I wonder if he has night sweats and nightmares of drowning.

You seem to know a lot about night sweats and nightmares of drowning.  Is this something you also suffer?

Caius -> RE: A bow to iron-fisted tyrants (4/15/2010 4:30:09 PM)

Alright, relax a bit there buddy, it was hardly the insult of the century and definitely not meant in as serious a tone as you took it.  No need to rush to my profile to try to find ammunition to attack my character and then just start making shit up when you find nothing useful there.  But I am curious, do you really think you can characterize my one tiny post as 'sticking my nose' into your business when the two of you consumed every third post for several pages (and twice that in the thread I was browsing immediately previously) with nearly identical reiterations of "You're an ignorant ass." and "Prove I'm an ignorant ass!"?  This is a public board - any 'business' you bring here you clearly want people to see, or else you'd presumably use the private messages that are all of two clicks away.

You can't have it both ways, champ - you can't try to use the forum as a means to gain some sort of public victory in your petty (and clearly ongoing) contest of wills with mike and then cry foul when the rest of us (and you'll note I was not the first one) make half-assed attempts to pry you apart because we're tired of scrolling through the whiny, repetitive little squabble.   And again, the attempt was meant light-heartedly at the time.  Clearly I touched upon an issue with the implication that you were gay, since you flew off the handle and made a point of trying to reverse it on me, so I suppose for that I should apologize if it got that far under your skin, but really, what year do you live in that the tired old "Will you two get a room?"  line rankles you that much?  I have no idea what started this little flame war between you and mike, but given he took the innocuous comment for what it was and let it slide off his back with only a little joke, I think I can fairly well guess who got all twitchy and insulting first in your debate with him.

And yes, sure, I might just as well have come down on Merc and Domi, but then that little personal battle is occasionally punctuated by something funny said by DG or one of them actually addressing the subject matter of the thread.

It rankles me not at all.
It does seem that you can't take what you so freely dish out.
Why is it that you feel you can make snide remarks to me but feel put upon if I return the favor?

Are you suggessting I have a)nothing funny to say.....and/or b) I don't occasionaly address the subject matter of the thread.
I'm afraid I have to disagree with you here....Domi can't hold a candle to my ass in the funny business....and diespite all of Merc's real life success(and my apparent middling at best attempt to keep my head above water)I am way more smarter and on point than Mr.Long winded Merc(no offence Merc).
With these grossly unfair remarks it is apparent to me that I must add another poster to my personal feud list...[:D]

Sanity,
Here in Asia, bowing is like shaking hands. To refuse to bow would be akin to refusing to take a hand when it is offered. It would be a deep insult. Asians view touch very differently than we do. It is only done when people are close - friends / family. That Asian leaders shake hands is a great step in their meeting a western leader half way. We need to recognize that. You cannot apply your cultural norms to a person of another culture.

Beyond that, if there is no conversation whatsoever, then there is no change.

Best,
sunshine

Here in America, it is rude to fail to extend your hand for a handshake when the other party reaches out.

Aren't bows also supposed to be mutual there in Asia?
