Termy,

Do they have any of those 'make your own beer' places down there...if so, can they offer you a recipe with the lowest alcohol content possible just to relieve your cravings?

You could drink plain ice tea. I'd suggest crustal light with the bottled water, but you said you didn't want anything sweetened. However, I do know some Crystal lights are not super sweet, and if you find them to be so, you can always dilute them with more water than powder.

Then there's lemons in the water. You could also drink Seltzer water, Or mineral water, though I admit I hate mineral water , just don't like the taste, so I don't know how sweet that would be or not.

The problem is that there are so many exclusions it's not funny. I don't want anything sweetened, at least to any great degree. I avoid sugar, and will not touch anything with HFCS. That leaves out most soda. Bottles water might be good but might get boring, not that it isn't an option but I don't drink tap water, not in this city.

What to drink - that is the question.

FR

Actually I think this water might do nicely. And as I said I am wondering if the other things in beer might be harmful in too much quantity. I mean there is no alcohol in soda, but I won't touch it with a ten foot pole. I won't even drink coffee anymore. No milk either. I used to pound down the coffee in the morning and up to a half gallon of milk with dinner.

Some would classify the coffee the olman and I used to drink as mud, or maybe even toxic waste. I mean it was STRONG. While many say that you should not be able to see through a pot of coffee, if you drank this through a straw you wouldn't see through it. I'm sure I was over caffinated then, and I simply stopped.

I don't see this as much different actually.

The day comes......... At least now I have an acceptable substitute that won't break the bank (worse). A thirty pack of my rot gut is $16 and that's for about 5.6 gallons. This water I got on sale for $3 for five liters. I don't know the normal price. Plus the fact that all varieties of this water are not so pure. Certain flavors have aspartame which I refuse to ingest. I will stock up, I'll just use a base figure of about a gallon per day.

Thinking of it in those terms though, I don't drink all that much more when it's beer. The thirty pack can last four or five days but sometimes I have these thirsty friends...........Actually without the thirstful ones, it is common for a thirty pack to last about three or four days. That's 120 ounces per day tops, and considering that it is the only fluid intake whatsover, it's really not ridiculous. Maybe I should figure two gallons per day on the water, just to be on the safe side.

The water was three bucks for five liters, but get this, of the two varieties I consider acceptable, I bought them out. I'll start stocking up soon, it might take multiple trips actually. I just got a chuckle out of that because it is one of the the ridiculous problems I've ever experienced. I have to get ready to drink water LOL. Call me persnickety I guess.

More later.

You should try flavored seltzer, very little flavoring but the same carbonation you get when you drink beer.

Incidently, if beer was the only fluid you were drinking you were probably dehydrated cuz (as you no doubt know) beer makes you pee a lot.

I'm glad to hear that you aren't drinking so much any more, good for you Termy, keep up the good work! [:)]

I like my beer, perhaps too much, it has in the past become a problem, but now I believe I have sorted that problem out and not entirely by myself, for beer in pubs, the only place I will drink it, or if not, with friends in either's home, is plain too expensive and I have not the funds available to use on beer in the quantities I used to drink.

Fine, I can go without food for a few days, but now I have a responsibility, my cat which needs feeding regularly, a veritable shit machine, and cat food costs, so I must always have funds available to feed my cat if not myself. So having a cat, I have noticed my leisure fund dwindle, which is not really a problem as I needed a good reason to cut back.

As a result drinking beer is now restricted to two nights a week only and because of the  routine I am finding I need to drink less to achieve the results I seek, so it is costing me less for the leisure I once had and in truth now I am in a routine of restricted drinking, I don't really miss it.

Next job is to restrict my intake of coffee.

"Next job is to restrict my intake of coffee. "

Coffee is another issue. I used to pound it down strong in the morning and could be out the door to work in about ten minutes. Without it it takes me about an hour to awake fully. Actually I could roll into work in that state and at least get my day in order, do some research or something, whatyever,  but the problem is driving there. With my eyes only half open, am I much better than a drunk driver ?

However once I got used to the mud I was drinking, the caffination was so strong I would have the jitters some days. My job does not go well with the jitters. One wrong move can cost big.

What it boils down to is without the coffee I have to get up earlier, seems ironic but that's how it is.
