That is a lovely sentiment, but it doesn't work like that.

Why can't, in this case, the Mexiacn government help thier people? Why can't the people of Mexico help themsleves?

I have no problem with imigration. I have a problem with illegal imigration.

I am not saying illegal immigration is right but we don't want to take a view at fixing it. We rather sit and blame the people that are affected by gov't policies and an oligarchy of power in Mexico. The status quo suites many people here and we'd like not to force the Mexican Gov't to take care of its people. I'd much rather we brought our men and women back from overseas and do some invading of Mexico to stabilize the border area and root out some of the illegal activity.

That said, I put myself in the shoes of any mexican. I am faced with that life or trying to find a better life legal or otherwise in the US? I'd be crossing the border everyday. Wouldn't all of us?

It is not the job of the US to be parent to every country. We have enough problems at home without opening our arms to embrace any and all who wish to enter. Now, why is it everyone wants to paint a mexican face on illegal immigration?

Why are you advocating the practice of rewarding criminals?

It's over. You don't get it. Instead of sending our jobs out of the country those from out of the country are coming for the jobs. I assure you that illegals are not coming to take my job.

The illegals are taking the worst jobs available.

Illegal immigrants work in many sectors of the U.S. economy.
According to National Public Radio,

about 3 percent work in agriculture;
33 percent have jobs in service industries;
and substantial numbers can be found in construction and related occupations (16 percent),
and in production, installation, and repair (17 percent).[4]

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=4703307

According to USA Today,

about 4 percent work in farming;
21 percent have jobs in service industries;
and substantial numbers can be found in construction and related occupations (19 percent),
and in production, installation, and repair (15 percent),
with 12% in sales,
10% in management, and
8% in transportation.

Which job is it that you wouldnt do?

No rolling stops or crooked turns? No cell phones? Always cross the street at the light? whatever.

Why are they different? We readily accept people for political asylum. Do you not think that Mexicans are runnng away from an oppresive govt?

I am saying you need to get him off the steps of the school but you also better understand why he is there. The Mohawks run cig's across the St. Lawrence daily. You would have no problem the Federal Gov't arresting the leaders of the Tribe for allowing that activity?

No problem with the leaders being arrested at all.

Im of a different generation than you. One that believed in ... dont do the crime if you cant do the time.

i miss that show ~sighs

I live in Pittsburgh... i dont drive.. no need. The bus is great (sometimes.. lol). Cell phone use not a problem. And crossing the street here at any spot other than the light will get me killed. I sorta like living and breathing.

And you can see where that approach got you. The jails empty cause you somehow deterred crime with punishment? It is clearly time for you and your generations ideas to move on.....tried and failed

Want? Any idea how many people walk into the door of the restaurant i work in and beg for any job? A year ago i was applying to be a hotel maid, bar tender, dish washer... didnt matter.. i needed a job. I dont have the attitude that i am too good for any job. I have bills that require an income to pay them. There are many, many, many people just like me, willing to work any job. Then there are many people willing to work any job that doesnt require them to do much and allows them to party when they want.

Jails empty now? Your way doesnt seem to be working either... unless you count the age of criminals getting younger and younger "working"

I doubt I would do any of them.

I would love to see all of the illegals leave. who is going to fill their jobs?

We will all pay more. The economy would suffer.

It would be so refreshing if you actually took the time to read the links that you attach to "make" your point.

from your link....http://www.usatoday.com/money/economy/2006-04-10-immigrants-economic-impact_x.htm

"Measured against the passions it arouses, immigration's economic consequences are surprisingly modest, economists say. Less than 5% of the nation's 148 million workers are illegal immigrants, according to the Pew Hispanic Center. By one estimate, immigrants raise total economic output by $21.5 billion — equivalent to less than one day of extra output each year. "We know that the net benefit of immigration is very small," says George Borjas, an economist at Harvard University who specializes in the subject."

"Yet, there's a silver lining in the workforce transformation, Kasarda says. The money employers saved by adopting more Hispanic labor allowed at least some factories in embattled industries to keep working. On average, the Hispanic workers earned much lower salaries: $24,391, vs. $39,951 for non-Hispanics.

That preserved jobs for thousands of Americans, both on still-humming assembly lines and in related businesses that benefit from their presence. Overall, the state's fast-rising Hispanic population, almost evenly divided between legal and illegal migrants, funnels about $9 billion in purchases and taxes into North Carolina's economy each year, Kasarda says.

"Few people would argue that Hispanics do not depress wages," he says. "But there is another side to the coin.
"

Reading is fun....You can actually learn things!!! If you did more reading and less listening to those that you allow to form your opinions you would be a more interesting human being.

Mine? When did we somehow start making policy? Take a look around Barack and most of the rest are from your generation tazzy. You are fully in charge. What is here is of your making.

I form my own opinions, based upon more than an article and the TV.

Service industry.... both articles indicate that illegals employment is high in that industry. When was the last time you brushed shoulders with an illegal to get a job done?

Ahhhh.. so now you wish to pass the buck. you are 24, you have been eligible to vote for 6 years. But you wish to pass the buck and not take your own responsibility for the decisions your generation has made or allowed to be made for you.

Aw comeon...are you saying mowing Warren Buffets lawn isn't a glamorous job?

Good to see those championing for the cause of ongoing exploitation of the illegal workers! Join the ranks of those like the fine corporate sponsor, Tyson Foods, CA Corporate Farming, and the sweat shops of LA's Fashion District.

Hell - if I was as pragmatic as I represent myself to be I should be joining your side. I know my costs are much less than they should be due to an illegal work force depressing pricing. Without them - no way I could get my landscaping done for $150/month, my deck fixed for $50, or rubbished hauled for $10 a worker picked up at the U-Haul store; if illegal workers weren't given 'safe-haven'.

Bush and Obama have another thing in common besides their desire to bail out their corporate backers, they also want to make sure they have a cheap exploitable work force. But it's supposed to be a 'liberal', (or is 'progressive' the latest fad label?) to support illegal worker.

The magician's distraction serves its purpose to convince fools; but whether it's the extra bowl of oxtail soup for the welfare mom or the 'safe-city' for illegal workers; the corporate beneficiaries enjoy the support and your appreciation for the trick they've pulled off and thank you. Without your support, this ongoing exploitation would not be possible.

No, don't misunderstand me Merc. I am all for taking the employers who hire and toss their asses in jail. All good with me. Which wil obviously have  great effect on Illegal Immigration. It would also help our own economy a great deal by putting a bit of wage and price inflation in the mix. Would see my top line going up which would make my banker happy.

But you can't just stop there. There has to be some help and compassion for those that are here. Are we going to round up 12 million people? Doubt it. Need to be realistic. At the same time we need to Concentrate on the Americas and leave the Middle East to the Middle East to fix. Mexico is a mess. We'd do well to bring troops home and invade Mexco 100 miles deep and set up shop. Force the Oligarchy to come to terms with a new way of life.

It isnt "my way" its just how it is. Either you are part of the solution or you are part of the problem. There is no middle ground. And if we dont like how things are run, we can only blame ourselves. I blame myself for the mess this country is in, along with everyone else who is legally able to vote. The economy still sucks, but is improving... illegal immigration is a mess, and we need the federal government to step up and do their job.... wall street, banking and health care still need overhauling...energy needs to be addressed... and ll these issues are just the tip of the iceburg for the government.

Of course in your mind misdemeanor=crime.

Actually, in *everyone's* mind, a misdemeanor is a crime. There are two types of crimes, felony is one, misdemeanor is the other.

Perhaps your mind needs a refresher course. There is a reason that they call some crimes misdemeanors

Though in *my* mind, sneaking into this country *should* be a felony.

Then perhaps you should contact your representative in congress and seek to have the law changed.

I say make it a felony to be involved with illegal immigration in any capacity -- sneaking into the country; renting a property to an illegal; hiring an illegal; anything.

All of those except the illegal entry are felonies.
What penalty would you seek for a first offense illegal aliens?

No it does not...The illegals pay more in taxes than they derive in benifits.
