I think you should be seeing both a physician and a chiropractor. They can work together, and successfully. I do not think it is wise to limit your options in this case. I had back issues and my family doc and chiropractor worked together to come up with a successful treatment plan. Ask your physician if you can have a payment plan. There are often option available; people simply do not ask about it.

From an older thread there was information that said the OP was in Kansas. I do not know if that is current, but if it is there are listings for some sliding scale clinics in some Kansas locations.
