ORIGINAL: babygurlangel He has been to a regular psychiatrist and when he was just talking to them he revealed his kinkiness and they told him that they could 'cure' him and since then he is not wanting to get the help he needs because he knows there is nothing wrong with him being kinky. His psychiatrist was an idiot. Unless he says the problem is due to his sexual interests, such as needing a pair of purple stilettos within eyesight to become aroused, there's no real reason to even mention it. Depression can be situational, it can also be purely hormonally caused, and it can be the result of genetics. Now to avoid the tangent of sexuality or upbringing (unless there are reasons to go into that) it helps if you come in with a family tree of other relatives with mental issues. If you can say your father suffers from anxiety and adhd, there was a second cousin with bipolar, three other relatives who suicided, two others who have been on antidepressants successfully, then they will focus on symptoms and treatment and not even ask if you were abused as a child. The cases mentioned are my family tree, and that's how I know how helpful it is to bring one in. Before I produce it, people started with how was I raised, now they believe me when I say it's genetic.
